Do note, also, that it has been months since anyone actually emploted by Nueros has responded to a post like yours.
That is why I returned my Woot-era 442 for a refund 3 weeks ago; supposedly I will be gatting my check any day now.
Yup, I returned mine last week since by the time that Neuros finally releases the 444v2, it will not be worth anything that they would have hope for since you can get a 7" 40GB PocketDish(rebadge Archos) for $399 or $339 if you're a Dish subscriber or the 30GB 4" model for $299 or $249 if you're a Dish subscriber. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Neuros 444v2 in the future if it works as advertised but there is absolutely no reason to keep the current 442 at the $330 price that I paid for it since you get it refurbished on ebay from Neuros for only $189.

The silence regarding the features and release date for 442v2 is indeed disturbing. There never was an adequate explanation as to why 640x480 recording, which was promised as an immediate upgrade for v1, was never implemented. The audio features are barely features (a $29 mp3 player does better), and the 2 firmware upgrades so far have not adddressed a single priority item on our wish lists. In the meantime, archos and cowon are building and enhancing mature products.
I have decided to invoke my money-back return option on my v1 this week and spend my refund (whenever that shows up) elsewhere.
I'm thinking the same thing if the v2 isn't released anytime soon. It's only 4 more weeks till Q3 and we haven't heard anything. It doesn't matter if the product is good or not but our money is getting wasted waiting for the v2 since I can return the v1 for $330 and just buy the refurbished v1 directly from Neuros on ebay for only $199. If Neuros takes any longer to have the v2, they will probably have to lower the market price especially if Archos and Cowon does so w/ their PMPs then the upgrade options are no longer as enticing. Of course, my decision all depends on the pricing scheme for the v2.

Of course we're trying to be patient but it seems that there is no support for the current 442 or progress on the new 442. I hear good things about the Cowon A2 and that product is getting firmware updates all the time unlike us.

The issue is the fact that the return conditions were made known nearly five months after the Woot sale. No mention was made at that time to keep the original packaging, etc for upgrades when the units were sold through Woot back in September of 2005. Had customers been advised to keep the original packaging and all enclosed items when they first purchased their units so they would be eligible for a refund, it would have been a different matter.
To be perfectly honest, I'm left with the impression that Neuros is trying to limit the number of discounted exchanges they will have to make by setting return / refund conditions months after the 442s were sold, relying on the fact that some customers may not have kept the original packaging handy after several months.
Lastly, standard industry practice should be common knowleged to those that are in that particular industry. Assuming that not all Neuros customers are in the electronics retail industry, I don't see how knowledge of a "standard industry practice" should apply in this case.
I think you're just trying to make an excuse. I remember Neuros specifically telling us to keep the box because many people inquire about damaging the box by cutting the UPC out for the rebate and Neuros stated the box w/o the UPC was fine when you returned the unit or exchange the unit. W/ that said, it is obvious to me and others that you had to keep the box for exchange or refund. As for the accessories, it is obvious you have to return it. The only grey area for me is that damn rubber piece covering the i/o ports--it came off but I still have it and the earphones(who would want use earbuds returned, not me that's for sure but if Neuros wants it back they can have it).

Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - Feedback and Discussion / Any brave soul willing to try another PMP firmware
|

Anybody brave enough to try this firmware out? I also have this unit and it seems almost identical to the 442 but has a 7" screen and 20GB HD. The interface looks almost the same as the new interface that was reported by Neuros. The Menu system is very similar but the MobiNote is a little annoying because it has a lack of buttons that(no Menu button, 3way access button instead of the 4way) the 442 has. It supports .srt subtitles and has a bookmark feature for videos--Only downside of this firmware is that it doesn't support full screen mode and no Xvid(can be bypassed by using FourCC changer and changing info to Divx), it only displays the exact resolution that the video is which is kind of annoying(though perfect for 740x480 videos). I am not sure but I think this item is probably using the same hardware w/ a slightly different firmware only. If Neuros wanted to give us a firmware, I am sure it could be done already since this firmware seems to be from Eastech also. http://www.mobinote.net/na/download_dp7010series_eng.aspBTW, this thing was only $208 (sold out now though) so I'm really tempted to return the 442 if a new firmware doesn't come out soon.

Does anyone know how the upgrade plan will work for the gamma group? Specifically, what I want to know is will I be able to return both unit(442v1 and 442v2) if the final version(442v2) doesn't implement the features that were requested(external speakers, bookmark, VGA recording, .srt subtitle support). For me, the only improvements needed are to the video player portion but it's been forever and the only firmware so far address very few of our concerns. What I want most is a crash-proof unit that plays all types of video files including mpeg2 files and .srt subtitle support. The Green Screen of Death that I mention in the support forum has been duplicated by a couple of members on this forum and there hasn't been any progress at all.
