151  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Newbie Connection Difficulty on: March 13, 2006, 03:09:20 PM
In order for you to record TV programs, your recorder AV in, must have
video FROM the TV.
Your TV remote TV/Video button is used to select the video signal TO  your TV.

You need to have a converter of some type, cable box, DVD, VCR with Video out/Audio out RCA jacks on it.
You connect your recorder (AV IN) jacks to the Video OUT/Audio OUT jacks in order to record.
Get a cheap used VCR to do this. Then connect cable from the wall to Antenna in on the VCR. Antenna out on the VCR goes to Cable in on the TV.
Use the Video out on the VCR to the yellow AV in on the recorder
Use the Audio left and right out to the red and white AV in on the recorder.
Set up the Neuros recorder as it says in the booklet.

Any other questions, don't hesitate to post it here. We were all new once upon a time.......

152  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Can I hook up a "Helmet Cam" on: March 12, 2006, 08:12:47 PM
You will need to wire a custom battery, 5Volts + center
A 7805 regulator works fine.
Two female RCA chassis plugs back to back work for the camera
to recorder cables.
A bullet cam usually uses anywhere from 6V to 12Vdc.
A 12V battery with a 5 volt regulator will set you up fine.
Set the recorder up to be in AUTO record.
If you leave the recorder plugged in to the battery, once
you switch on the video cam, the unit will start to record
on its own.

Have fun!!

I had the same problem with the unit right out of the box.
By turning the jacks while they are connected fixed the problem.
I have not had the problem since.

Mortal Elf,
Sounds very exciting. I would love to see it when it is finished.

Some of us like to hack hardware, some of us love to hack software.

I love the hardware. The Neuros is a very nice size and excellent
little product to do just that. It's great for DIY Hack projects.

Here are some another great links:
http://www.engadget.com/2005/03/14/the-300gb-ipod-and-you/
http://www.addonics.com/products/io/default.asp?PageType=Print

I am contemplating on building a sort of critter cam, light enough to
be worn by a smalll dog. Seeing what they see, complete with audio.
Some of us just don't have enough time in the day.............

If you need any help, just email me: info@olson-engineering.com

Have fun!!!

158  Neuros Digital Audio Computer / Neuros Digital Audio Computer - I need help! / Re: Trouble with backpack connection? on: March 10, 2006, 06:59:21 AM
For just the antenna, you can also buy one cheap on ebay.
They are used for the Sirius satellite receivers that use a 2.5mm
connector.
Get the mod, connect the antenna

159  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: IDE to CompactFlash adapters? on: March 10, 2006, 06:35:25 AM
Yes there is something that exists.
In some embedded systems (automation control) the host systems uses a CF card slot to accept (down) small packets of data.
The same slot is also used to write (up) data from a hard drive.
The adapter is simply a bus (specified data exchange) between two memory devices. So the interface will work both ways.
You need a CF ribbon cable with one male end and one female end

How would you power the drive? If you are thinking of doing this, do not use any power (5 Volts dc) from the Neuros. You most likely will fry the DC power and associated circuits.

You can see one of these adapaters here:

I think the gist of it was to take a CF-to-IDE adaptor (like http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=16#p2607), then tear apart an old CF card, and hard-wire it to the CF/IDE adaptor, as an extension to reach the CF slot on the target device.  The CF card itself would be gutted, see, just using its pin connector wired to the adaptor.  Plus, of course, you need to provide power to the hard drive, via either PC power supply, or an external enclosure.

Well, I'd be quite interested if anyone can find a commercial version, or if anyone creates such a device.

-Thanks.

160  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Battery In Remote on: March 08, 2006, 09:33:48 AM
Misfit5 is right. Connect it to a tv first and try it. The green light is always on.

A simple cheap verification of any remote working or not working is .....

If you want to see your remote working, point it at a webcam, or a digital cam and continue to press the remotes button. View the remote LED through webcam or digital cam's view. If you see the remotes LED flashing, then it works.

the green light just shows that it's plugged in and receiving power. The remote is to turn the recorder on to get to the various functions--I know that sounds a little confusing, but if you only plugged it in w/o having your tv set up, the remote will appear to not be doing anything. Once you get your tv hooked up and set to the right channel, use the remote to turn the player on and you'll get the options screen.

Duke,
On your site under support you have a warranty link that refers to only the Neuros MP3.
This warranty statement does not make reference to thhe 442 nor the Recorder.

PSP fans will be happy to hear that the Neuros MPEG4 Recorder 2 works will Datel 4GB Hard drive. Insert the Duo connection of the Datel HD in the MS slot and ...record...you have access to 4GB of storage for your favorite videos.

That’s a lot of information thanks.
Now back to the question for this hard head guy.  Can I buy a 4 or 6GB drive that will work?
If so what drive?

FJ: What neuros saying?

Thanks

163  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Hitachi 4gb microdrive on: March 06, 2006, 11:47:52 AM
A word from Hitachi directly.................

It has come to our attention that many others selling on eBay are offering bare 4GB Hitachi Microdrives that were actually removed from OEM equipment such as the Creative 4GB Muvo2, Samsung's 4GB YEPP or pre-release versions of Apple's mini-ipod. The version of the Hitachi 4GB Microdrive found in these OEM devices is NOT generic and these modified drives will NOT reliably work in most other CF based equipment despite the claims of these sellers. The reason for this is that many OEMs using Hitachi 4GB drives in their products are doing so with proprietary firmware written to their specialized OEM hardware implementation . In the case of Creative's Muvo2 product it not only has proprietary firmware, but it also uses a different CF connector pin out and operating voltage than the CF industry standard supports. Any unknowing buyer who purchases and uses one of these hybrid Muvo2/Hitachi 4G microdrives in their CF equipment for prolonged periods of time will destroy both the Hitachi 4GB drive and their CF based equipment. For other OEMs using proprietary firmware in their Hitachi 4Gb Microdrives, you will experience intermittent read/write problems if you use their hybrid 4GB Microdrive in other CF devices. If buying elsewhere on eBay, please be sure to ask the seller the origin of their 4GB Hitachi Microdrive before buying or you may be making a costly mistake! In contrast, all our Hitachi Microdrives are guaranteed fresh OEM product direct from Hitachi and have not been modified in any way from the Hitachi supplied specifications stated below. If you have any doubts about our special OEM warning statement above feel fee to contact us and we will gladly provide legitimate buyers with our Hitachi OEM reseller ID so you can call Hitachi OEM and verify our statement as well as our reseller status or you can contact Hitachi Storage Technologies OEM directly @ 1-800-801-4618 to verify anything we have stated in our warning statement above. Buying a OEM drive removed from any of the OEM equipment stated with proprietary firmware will ruin your Hitachi Microdrive as well as CF based equipment.
