1  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Remote Question on: December 13, 2006, 08:24:36 PM
You can purchase a new remote (as a spare) off of the Products>Accessories link.
I think they are $14.95 each.

Dongle, if you need, I can buy for you and have dropped shipped to you in the UK.

Email me the quantities
2  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Using it as a blackbox - is there a continuous recording mode possible? on: December 10, 2006, 01:44:14 PM
There is a Ir chip available from New Zealand Technologies that will learn 4 Ir codes into a single chip.

This chip is then a "switch" to signal the R2 to turn ON. By turning on a switch, the first code is sent to the R2.
then, the second switch is a time delay circuit of 5 seconds that is used intiate the second Ir command to start the RECORD mode of the R2.

I believe that this would be the best solution for anyone wishing an "automatic" ON and Record switch.
They also develop a similiar chip that detects motion and sends any one of 4 learnt, Ir command to a recorder.

Found the problem.
I did a trace route from my office to neurosaudio.com. The problem is an MCI server/router that does not resolve
the neurosaudio.com to an IP quick enough.
4  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: MPEG-4 in Racing Car on: December 10, 2006, 01:32:16 PM
I suspected the problem due to the difference in the ground potentials.

My kit has a Sony Exview camera with a seperate 12V supply. I hooked up to the R2 with its own 7.2 v supply, with a
5v switching regulator.

The video qualitywas  produced with banding, and noise interference from the 5v switching regulator.  I scoped the
interference to coincide with the switching of the regulator.

I changed to a single supply with the same 5v regulator and sheilded cables. I elminated the problem completely.

The R2 can certainly be installed in a race car.
Will Powered (forum member) has done it with 2 R2 recorders, one for front, the other for rear.
One remote can start both recorders recording at the same time.

The main issue with the R2 in a mobile situation is the video quality from the source camera.
Typically the user makes the mistake of running the R2 and the video camera off seperate battery supplies.
The problem with this will be poorer quality video.

This problem is quite easy to fix, run both the R2 and the bullet cams off the same supply. A 5V switching regulator
and sheilded video cables will easily produce D1 resolution as seen on the R2 website (sample video)

The R2 AV connectors should also be replaced with BNC cables. The factory jacks are low grade and exhibit poor connections resulting in noise/loss of quality

A good compact 12V battery (metal hydride) that are fairly common in the CCTV security industry are perfect for
this type of application.

If you want professional quality video, spend the time making a professional system. Don't settle for less.

A remote for the R2 can easily be "hacked" to produce a good quality on/off, and record switch. The front face of the
remote simply peels off from the botton right where the keychain hole is. This exposes the PCB. Conductive pads similiar
to those used in hospital ER's can be cut in half and put on either side of the carbon pads. Two wire leads are then
connected to this pad. Any type of switch can be soldered to the other end. Whaala! you have an ON/OFF switch.
Do the same to the record pad. Whaala! you have a Record switch.
The Ir from the remote can be routed through a TOSLINK cable to the front of the recorders. You now have a cabled
remote for the recorders. By installing a TOSLINK adaptor in front of the Ir LED and another one at the recorder
end, you can simply plug the TOSLINK cable in at each end.

Have fun!!!

FJ is completely correct about the poor quality of the VMate.
We tested the VMate  and were not at all impressed with the quality.
The On/Off switch seems to have some flaws with the unit also.

For sure the Neuros R2+ is the best buy.

7  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: Remote Control Code on: December 08, 2006, 09:51:00 AM
For sure it makes complete sense what you are trying to do.

You are trying to get your Satellite box to get the R2 to start recording by programming  your Satellite IR Blaster
with an Ir code that the Neuros remote uses.

But what you are trying, and what maybe available, are two different things.

8  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: Remote Control Code on: December 07, 2006, 04:26:15 PM
Try the Universal Cable box remote code 0770
These brands should work:

Apache
Viewmaster VM3800

or try CBL code 1329 might work as well.

If not, you can buy a JP1 enabled remote called ONE for ALL (universal) and program the CBL button to be 0770 or 1329.
This will control your Neuros Recorder.

Good luck

Maybe these two items can help you out:

I think the R2 remote is a custom remote, uses a NEC protocol, 38 Khz Ir, custom code 866b. The remote decoder is made by Jaecs of Taiwan.  I could not find any additional info on their site.

I have posted a question about it here:

http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=20

and the button codes  of the R2 remote codes here:

10  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: Olson news ? box? on: November 09, 2006, 10:04:38 PM
Hi Mongello,

The circuit on the site is sold as an OEM model. It is meant for customizing your own enclosure.
Some of these are tested by companies that wish to use the Neuros recorder for their final product.

We custom make what you need. Send us your requirements and we work with you to build your ideal system.
Our system is an add on to the Neuros recorder.

We have had alot of interest from personal users and are developing a completely enclosed circuit that
may be strapped to the front of the recorder that will protect the CF card, hold the Ir circuit in place and
provide an on/off record switch.

The 9 pin connector you see in the specifications is the actual input and outputs to the Ir command module to
supply all voltages and audio/video into and out from the R2.

The Ir circuit that is on the webpage can be connected directly to a 12Vdc motorcycle system, however it is
recommended to also put a filtering capacitor in place to reduce the electrical noise.

This circuit, the enclosed box, the power supply, the microcomputer design is a unique project.
Barry and I will provide more information as it becomes available.

You can send your questions/desires/comments directly to info@olson-engineering.com

Have you noticed the forum pages do not respond very quickly anymore?

It is like an old 14400 dial up connection?

Your opinion??
12  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder for skydiving? on: November 01, 2006, 07:26:22 PM
Yes the NMR can be used without connecting to a TV.
Yes it can be operated with a Power ON and Record circuit (additional to the NMR)
Yes it can be operated on batteries (with the proper barrel connector and regulated battery supply)
