have a neuros Mp3 30 GB. I have a couple questions with regard to the sync manager. I don't yet have an external hard drive to keep the music on my computer. I download music and sync to my neuros, then delete the music from the hard drive, because, music slows down the computer tremendously. I make back up data cdrs of the music before deleting the music, so I have it saved. My first question:
1) If I do get an external hard drive so I can keep music downloaded in the future on the computer, how do I configure the neuros so that the downloads save to the external hard drive. 2) If I were to get a new computer, how would I be able to save all the music currently on the neuros mp3, since the music currently on there is " not in the original location". It has been saved to cdr and deleted from the HD. What do you all recommend for scenarios 1 & 2. Your advice is appreciated. Mike

[my playlists have disapeared]

Ok. I can handle it if I need to rebuild my playlists. After I installed sorune, and rebuilt the database in Sorune. Now, everything is perfect, except, my playlists have disapeared. Do I need to recreate them, or is there a way to export them from my Neuros Sync Manager, or do I need to recreate them in Sorune? I like the looks of Sorune. That seems to be the only glitch. Any suggestions? Mike[]

iPods only allow you to sync to one computer as a form of copy protection. That doesn't apply to the Neuros.

You don't need to transfer music to Sorune. Sorune is simply a program that allows you to see the music on both your computer and Neuros, to transfer music from your computer to the Neuros and to build the Neuros' database. Sorune presents you with two windows. The left window  is a Windows Explorer like list of your hard drives and their contents. You can find your music just like you would in Explorer. The right window is a list of the music in your Neuros database.

I'm glad to see you have decided to switch to Sorune. I think that you will find that the interface will make it easier to understand how it all works. I will try to give your a layman's set of instructions to achieve your goals:

1. Buy your external hard drive and set it up with your computer.
2. Connect your Neuros to the computer.
3. Open My Computer. You should see your new drive listed under Hard Drives and your Neuros under removable storage. Double click on the new drive's icon.
4. Open another My Computer window and open the Neuros drive. You should see a folder named Music on the Neuros. Drag that folder to the new drive's window and all of your music will be copied there.
5. After copying is complete, open Sourne. You should be able to find your music on the new HD in the left window and see the music in your current Neuros database in the right window.
6. Create a fresh database on the Neuros by clicking on the Rebuild icon in Sorune. You don't have to do this, but it's a good idea.
7. Tell Sorune where your music is stored on your new HD by clicking on the Configuration Options icon. Under the General tab, click on browse next to Music Home and find your new music folder. At some point, click on Help to explore the options available for customizing your database on the Neuros.

To add music in the future:
1. Rip or copy your music to your new HD music folder.
2. Connect your Neuros and open Sorune.
3. Highlight the new music in the left window.
4. Click on the Add icon. The new music should now be marked for addition.
5. Click on the Synchronize icon. Your new music will be copied to the Neuros and the database will be updated.

[Terrific - just the info I needed, as I am new to a lot of this stuff, but learning more all the time, thanks to folks like yourselves. If I get rid of the Neuros software in favor of, say Sorune, which I have been told by numerous people, I believe you told me once I am all for that. My only concern is that the music data is not on the PC hard drive saved anywhere. It shows up on the Neuros sync manager, but like I said is saved to cdr as back up. What I want to do is get an external HD so I can keep my tunes on the hard drive for easy access. This way I don't have to keep everything on the Neuros. You can easily control the location that WMP rips music to. Open WMP and select options under the tools menu. Click on the rip music tab and you will find the location you are currently savig ripped music to. To change the location to another folder or disk, just click on change and find or create the folder you want to save to. This can be on your main drive, or any external drive, including the Neuros. I don't like tying up my Nueros to rip, so I rip to my HD and the use Explorer to copy the files directly to the Neuros music folder. Then doing a sync with NDBM or Sorune quickly adds the files to the database. I would jettison the sync software that came with the Neuros and move to one of the other two if I were you.

As far as the music you have transfered to cdr. Unless your Neuros crashes and you need to restore your files, you should never need to access your cdr disks again. As Chad said, complete versions of all of your music are stored on your Neuros. If you get an external HD or a new computer and want all of your music stored there as well as on your Neuros, just copy your entire music folder from the Neuros to the new drive. The fact that you moved them to cdr is irrelevent.

My wife has an RCA flash drive player and the media player recognizes it just fine, but not my Neiros for some reason. When downloading music off the internet, I go to wondows explorer, to verify where the music has been saved. Generally in " My downloads". Then I do the same. This has nothing to do with the Neuros, and everything to do with the ripping software you're using.  In the options menu of that software, you should be able to change the directory it stores the songs.  (This varies from program to program.  If you can let me know what you're using, I should be able to help more.)

The Neuros looks like an external HD to the computer.  You just open that drive through My Computer, and all the music is in a folder called "Music".  Copy it back over from the Neuros to the new PC.

Here's the problem.Can anyone help. I've been downloading music on my Neuros 30gb for about 3+ months, using the NSM manager to search for, add tracks, and sync to my mp3. It's been working perfectly. All of a sudden last week. I have downloaded tracks on "My downloads" and I do the " search for tracks on computer", and it compes back "no tracks found." They are on there and they are fully functional/ playable. I've updated the firmware. Are there any settings I should be checking on my computer or the NSM. I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the MP3 player itself, as this happens when the device is not connected. When I connect the device, same result. Any ideas, please. Mike

[No problem on the anti- piracy thing. I completely understand, and thought about that after I wrote it. I have the neuros sync manager search for the tracks which are located in the " My downloads" section of my documents on the C drive. The files play fine., but the neuros sync manager can't seem to find them. Can you help? Mike]

I am pretty sure you can not add tracks to NSM if they are on a physical CD. Browse for the tracks that are on your computer, not on a disc and see if you can find them that way. As a side note, please do not discuss P2P programs or websites that promote file sharing. We are strictly anti -piracy at Neuros and do not support the stealing of content.

Thanks Derek. I will try as you suggest. I am really trying to get to the root of what the problem is. I have been downloading music from several sites, mainly Bearshare, and have never had this problem before. All of a sudden:
- I have tracks downloaded to " My downloads"
- They all play and are functional.
- The MP3 isn't connected at this point so it doesn't have anything to do with that.
- I saved them to cd-r using Windows explorer and they work fine.
- I even tried uploading them to the Neuros sync manager using the cdr copies.
- I get the message, you do not have permission to access these files or something to that effect.
- I have never had this problem with Bearshare before.
- Can anyone help? Mike []

Thanks for all your help. I tried to download music, and the files are all operational and in the "My downloads" file. When I try to " find files on my computer" from the syn manager, it searches but tells me " search for files and music/ my downloads" and then says " no files found". This is the first time this has not worked. I've tried to reboot the computer without luck. Any ideas? Mike

[Thanks for the info.[] It's what I suspected. My USB 2.0 slot on the neuros backpack appears to have gotten bent, so it is hard to connect. If I use the USB 1.0 with a standard 1.0 cable, will I get the same results syncing? Mike

If the battery is too low, the unit will not power up or be able to sync up with your computer. I would recommend letting just the backpack charge overnight and then try syncing up. I would also recommend having the unit plugged in while putting music on it. All the spinning and writing to the hard drive takes alot of power.

You all have been so helpful. I love my Neuros, but I am still having a few minor issues. It appears that the  socket for the USB 2.0 cable has gotten bent somehow, so I have to wiggle it and hold it to get it to make a connection. Two questions on this. 1st- I am using the USB1.0 port with a compatible cable. This seems to do the trick most of the time. I don't have a usb 2.0 on my pc any way. The second time I tried to sync with the usb 1.0 it didn't connect. ( come to find out the USB cable was loose from the PC. Fixed that and it fixed the problem)

My question is this: I am in the process of moving, and forgot my charger. I borrowed the neghbors car charger. ( How do you know when the neuros is fully charged?) I charged it up and downleoaded and sync'd some music.

I had forgotten to add the "Playlists" to the Neuros. So I tried to resync.At this point, the power was very low. It wouldn't sync or recognize the neuros. Is this because the power was so low?

I'd just like to know if that was my problem so I can stop worrying about my music. I'm great with technology until it doesn't do what its supposed to.

Your feedback is appreciated. You solved problem #1 for me. Do you mind taking a crack at this scenario? Mike ( leftysue)

The type of issues that you and SSA are experiencing are often resolved by reformating something called the NAND. For some reason they neglected to mention this easy fix in user guide. Start with your Neuros powered down. Hold down the 1 and 5 preset buttons while pressing the play button. A diagnosis screen will come up. Select "NAND Disk" followed by "Formant NAND Disk". You will get a warning that data will be permanently lost. Don't worry it won't do anything to your music files. Select "Yes" to format the NAND. When it is done, go back to the first screen and choose "Exit". The system may remain busy for a while. Try shutting down by holding the play button. Hopefully it will work now.

Now to address why the problem may have started in the first place. The very first time I sync'd my Nerous, I was not very careful about when I disconnected it. If you ever disconnect the USB cable durring a sync or if your computer goes into sleep mode while communicating with your Nerous, bad things happen and the NAND will need to be reformated. I had to reformat mine several times when I first got it. Since then, I always make sure I use the "safely remove hardware" feature in my system tray before disconnecting and I haven't had a problem since.

Finnaly, I fully agree with SSA on the use of Sorune. Let me know if this helped.
