1  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Bars scrolling from right to left. on: November 08, 2006, 05:00:51 AM
This sounds like an interference problem.

Does the bar appear when the sat box is disconnected ?

Try moving the R2 and/or switching off as much as possible in the house especially wifi etc.
Try a different video source, DVD player etc.
Try a different TV - ask a mate to test on his system.

If the problem is consistent then contact Neuros direct and request a replacement.

Are you absolutely sure there are no RCA (composite video) or S Video connectors on your cable box ?. This problem has cropped up a few times and alternate connectors have been "discovered" !.

You cannot connect component video to the R2. It will only accept composite video.

However, if you have a DVD recorder/ VHS recorder (highly unlikely) that has component video connections you may be able to use another connector (SCART/RCA) on this device to output composite video. Another possibility is that your TV may have an analogue output that will work.

Failing all this you will need to find a component/composite converter - expensive !.

The quality of the supplied scart leads is poor to say the least. They are also labelled video in & video out but this refers to the connected equipment not the R2 connections - this causes immediate confusion !. I had a look inside the scart connectors whilst sorting out a replacement RCA type lead. The earth pin is not even soldered to the metal shield - it is just pushed between the plastic case and shield - worth checking. I would have much preferred RCA connectors in the box but Neuros seem to think that everyone in Europe uses scart for everything !. I now use RCA & scart adaptors where necessary.

Having said all this the R2 did work first time with the scart leads and I have just received a replacement unit that also worked first time so my experience has been positive. I think you will find that the majority of R2 users have been able to plug & play.

My R2 failed with heavily distorted audio and "pulsing video"....

Have you tried a different video source ?.

I cannot comment on the symptoms but suggest you contact Neuros direct and arrange for a replacement. I purchased my R2 from sendit.com and they sent a new R2 before I had even posted the old one !.

Finally, the R2 does work well but be aware of the 2 hour recording limit which still has not been sorted.

I am temporarily on a dialup connection this week, have not noticed any major delays.
5  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Recorder I Audio on Windows XP on: November 01, 2006, 08:06:12 AM
You do not say which player you are using. Download VLC player (search google), if still no audio it is a machine setup problem. VLC has played everything I have ever thrown at it !.

Also, I have just tried playing an R2 file on a pc with Media Player 9 and I get audio but no video (pc not connected to internet for codec update).

Also 2... Gspot fails to identify the codec and other stream information !.
6  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Does not work with scart connections provided by Neuros on: October 30, 2006, 04:07:28 PM
I have a similar setup using a sky digibox.

Components
Digibox with 2 x scart & audio on rca
DVD recorder (treat DVD player) 2x scart & audio on optical
VCR 2 x scart & rca audio
TV 2 x scart & aux video i/p (not used)

The Digibox TV output connects directly to a tv scart (set to RGB for best quality)

The Digibox decoder output connects to the DVD recorder, R2 and VCR via a scart switch box. This allows me to select the recording device but the VCR will soon be ditched.

The outputs from the DVD recorder, R2 and VCR are connected to another scart selector box which is connected to the second TV scart socket - also set to RGB.

Normal connections are Digibox to DVD recorder input and DVD recorder output to TV.

This system allows me to easily select inputs & outputs for recording as well as playback. All audio connections are connected to my AV amp.

Do not connect any equipment permanently to the R2 output. From my observations the signal is degraded and the audio level is lowered.

You mention a "serial port" for video, sorry but there is no such thing !.

If you do not have scart connections on your skybox then you can achieve the same thing using composite video (RCA) connections. You may find it easier to draw a diagram of all your connections to see how it will work.

Hope some of this may be of use, if not please post exactly what connections you do have on each piece of equipment ad we can have another go !.

For info, it is highly unlikely that your security camera will provide the correct code(s) to start/ stop the R2. Some of us have constructed our own infrared controllers to do the job - Olsen has been "threatening" to offer a suitable device for several months but it has yet to be advertised on this forum.

However the R2 firmware has been updated to enable the device to start/stop recording if the video signal is present/not present. Your camera will need to be able to output some sort of signal to drive an analogue switch, relay or similar. Another option is to detect the infra red signal from the camera and use this to toggle the video feed.

More details about the R2 IR system can be found here:

My R2 replacement should be with me soon, if nobody answers in a week or so I will post something on my website.

This....

...may answer some questions. Probably best to test on a Neuros created mp4 file on your website. Would have sent something but my R2 died a while back and is off for replacement. Someone else can probably supply something.
14  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: How to create separate files from a camcorder video? on: October 20, 2006, 10:38:15 AM
Each time you cycle the record button a new file is created. There will be a slight delay of a few seconds between each file, this is unavoidable and common to most recording devices. Your files will be in .mp4 format and will need to be converted to quicktime so aditional software is required. Look around for software that will batch process multiple files to make life easier.
