I just got my Neuros a couple of days ago and my Neuros wont turn on.  I dont get any screen when i plug in the usb cable or when i plug in the charger cable.  My computer does not see it when i  plug it in now.  It could see it before but not now.

Depending on the cause of the failure to turn on, the following procedure may help restore function to your Neuros.

Try these steps first:

1.  Make sure the Lock switch is in the Unlocked position (down).

2.  Make sure the Neuros has been fully charged (overnight for a new Neuros or for one that has been fully drained of charge).  I recommend charging the backpack with the player removed.

3.  Make sure you hold down the play button for at least two seconds to turn the Neuros on.  Anything less will not turn the player on.

If the above steps don't resolve the problem, then try the following procedure:

1.  Remove the player from the backpack.

2.  Charge the backpack by itself overnight (no player attached).  (For USB 2.0 Backpacks: I believe the LED in lower right corner of backpack flashes about twice a second while charging, and about once per second when fully charged)

3.  Put the player back on the backpack.

4.  Press 1 + 5 + PLAY to turn the player on in Diagnostics Mode.

5.  Right click on NAND Disk menu item.

6.  Right click on Revive Bad Blocks.

7.  Right click on Yes.

8.  Wait for "Process..." screen to disappear.

9.  Right click on Format NAND Disk (This will not affect the data on your hard drive, it formats the player's memory only.  WARNING:  For FLASH only players (no hard drive) this WILL ERASE all the data on the player)

10.  Right click on yes.

11. Wait for "Process..." screen to disappear.

12. Left click to return to Diagnosis Menu.

13. Right click on Exit.

14. Wait for hard disk activity icon to stop blinking.

15. Turn the player off and then back on again.

If your player fails to turn on after performing the above procedure, call tech support.  Tech support is very helpful and will generally do everything they can to help you resolve your problem.

Please reply to this topic with an update on whether or not your problem was resolved.

The player was inlocked and chargeing the backpack alone did not fix the problem.  The light when i pluged it in just the backpack blinked 4 times a second.  It turned on then froze and I went to the diganzic screen and retrive the bad sectors and after that the player frozen and now i cant turn it on.  I have put it back in just the backpack and it now blinks 3 times a sceond.  The problem is still there.

I am having the same problem with my Neuros. I have had it for a while and it worked fine then it just started not coming on until I would disconnect the harddrive and reconnect. then it would work for a second then freeze up in Xi menus. Does anyone have any idea whats going on with my Neuros. I appreciate the help.

I'm having this problem as well. The Neuros came in the mail yesterday and I charged it all night, well over 8 hours. However I did have the player in the backpack while it charged, and before I charged it I took out the player and then put it back in. Could either of these affect it?

I have tried taking the player out, plugging in the backpack and then replacing the player. When I do this the screen goes orange for a few seconds. If I press any buttons it goes back off. If I leave it alone it also goes back off. Right now I am charging it without the backpack, but I think it's fully charged (the light is blinking 3 times per second).

Please help! I really want to try out my new Neuros player..

Edit: now it's blinking once per second..

I'm having the same issue, only I've got a little more to test with, so here goes:

  • I've charged it overnight, backpack only (during which time it blinked about once every second or two)

  • Putting the brain in and hitting power does absolutely nothing (lock button is unlocked, brain is firmly seated in)

  • Hitting Preset 1 + Preset 5 + Play does nothing, neither does 1 + 5 + HiSi (I think this is supposed to go to the NAND menu as well)

  • Putting the new brain in an old (USB 1.1-era, from 10/2003) backpack that's charging sometimes causes the backlight to come on, sometimes doesn't.

  • Putting the new brain in that same backpack when not charging shows that it does absolutely nothing

  • Putting the OLD brain in the new backpack works just fine.  It even shows that it's fully charged (using the old up+lock trick, it's showing "425", which is about as high as I've seen)

So, the new brain on mine is screwed, right?  Or does anyone have anything else I can try?

add another one to the list... i have this same problem  described down to a tee as above.  i have done everything suggested in this thread and the forums, including

-NAND
-Revive Bad Blocks
-Re-Format
-Charge Backpack Overnight
-Slightly Bend Pins
-Updated / Downgraded Firmware, trying all the above steps with various USB2.0 firmware versions

..no dice.  i think it must be a problem with the brain, because i can sync and get into the backpack with no problems.  it started having the symptoms 1 time randomly.  then, about 2 weeks later, it did it again... then a few days later again, then daily, now every time i try to turn it on... nothing, only thing that happens is the backlight comes on!!

now at this point, i can rarely ever get into the diag menu.  if i force shutdown with UP+PLAY and 1+5+PLAY about 20 times in a row, sometimes the diag menu comes up, then it locks up within 15-20 secs.  i got it to NAND and revive bad blocks completely 1 time, it played an MP3 for about 1 min, then locked right back up and its back to square 1...

i think the neuros folks should really start to consider this as a defect, as it appears that most of us got the units around the same time.  i just got a hold of support today and they told me to send it back

I sent mine back from the UK in February. Got it back at the end of May. And guess what? It has failed again!

Let's see if they can make a better job of fixing it this time.
