I just received my MPEG 4 Recorder II today and I am happy overall with it except for one issue. I'm specifically using this to record movies for my PSP and I noticed that when I play the audio at a higher level, there is a noticeable high-pitched beeping. I tried using both of the included wires, I checked and re-checked the connections to the source, I tried different sources AND I even tried hooking up just a cd player with an audio cable and it still happens! Please tell me there's a way to fix this because, beyond this issue, I'm happy with it so far  |

Are all your sources in the same area? It might be a shielding issue and you get some interferences. See if you can test the recorder with another TV set up if possible. Johan Neuros FJ |

Sadly, I have tried this to no avail. I even tried recording with the cable in the unit, but not plugged into a source and I still get the beeping, thus showing it may lie within the unit itself. Anybody else that has played videos on a PSP can confirm that there is no beeping on theres at higher volumes? If not, do I return it (I purchased it from American Techpushers)? Any help on this appreciated as I DO like the unit and hope this issue can be resolved.

I have a PSP and I'd be willing to try one of your videos to see if I get the high pitched beeping your talking about. If so can you make say a 5 minute sample video that beeps on yours and email it to me and Ill try it out.

I am having the same problem... I got the recorder a few weeks back and have tried everything imaginable... I even sent it back and Neuros replaced it... Support has been very helpful, but unfortunately I cannot figure out how to fix the problem... When I use it with a stand-alone portable dvd player everything works fine, but I was really hoping to use it with my DVR... I was thinking a firmware update with a synthesizer would help

That really looks like a shielding issue if it works fine with a stand-alone DVD. How old is your DVR? I will ask our beta testers if they have a solution for this. FJ |

You are not alone. I'm having the same problem. Not so much of a problem over the PSP's built in speakers, but when I use headphones (which is preferrable) that sustained beep gets quite annoying.
I've tried all the same fixes mentioned above. The only change I've noticed is in the pitch of the beep, but the volume remains the same.
If anyone here has something that works, please post here asap.
Otherwise, I'll be taking advantage of the 30 day money back guarantee.

well,I spoke to the VERY helpful and considerate customer support and spoke to Duke directly and we found out mine seems to be a defect in the recorder itself. Unlike stated in another post, ANYTHING I hooked mine up to had the consistent beeping right underneath the main audio signal. I shall be sending my unit back and will receive a new one and I will let you guys know how that one works out.
P.S. - Bucky, you seem to have the same exact problem as my recorder does. It's noticable on the PSP speakers, but moreso through the headphones. After learning my recorder has the issue, I suggest calling the 800 number.

I tried both recorders on three different dvr/tivo boxes and had the same ringing from each one... I also tried the recordings using monster cables, but had the same results... regardless of the source I am trying to record from the audio kbps of the recorded file is 48 (which seems low)... I returned the first recorder and was hopeful that it was a problem with the recorder itself, but unfortunately the replacement is doing the same thing... like what others have said the ringing is most apparent using the headphones... what about a firmware upgrade?

I've diagnosed the problem I think, try using headphones and taking off the right one...the sound is in the right channel. For me Im using a Mono VCR for the recording source...so I only have LEFT audio...so the right channel has a whine. I need to try mine with a stereo dvd player to see if it does it with that. For now try that one.
UPDATE: OK I just tryed it with my stereo dvd player...still the high pitched beeping in the right channel, and it seems all units are doing this...I think this is now when we called to Neuros for the answers...why is this 150 dollar item recording crappy audio? I think anything I pay 150 dollars for should be able to operate properly.

I get the same results as Hostile when using a mono vcr... This has to be something a firmware upgrade can address... I also tried it using an s- video with a converter I bought at radio shack and still had the highpitch noise

It's disappointing. I can't record in any fashion without audio issue. I'm very happy with the device otherwise. (With the exception of file size. But at least I was aware of that before purchase.)

Hi there
I also have a whining sound on all my recordings regardless of the source. This whine is apparent when I play the mp4 on my mac and also on my ipod and a win xp machine. So I set it to record and then unplugged both the input av and the output av lead. I can hear a whine all the way through the recording (porcessor hum?). I have e-mailed the support guys (am based in the UK) and I'm awaiting their reply.

Right now I'm currently working with some people at neuros trying to diagnose this problem, it seems its very touchy problem...people have the problem and send the unit to neuros and they dont have it. I sent a guy at neuros a video from mine and he heard the noise...and we ran some tests and stuff and he told me he sent another email out to his beta group about it. He'd give me an update in a few days. So I'll let everyone know whats going on with it as soon as I hear.
