Anybody brave enough to try this firmware out?  I also have this unit and it seems almost identical to the 442 but has a 7" screen and 20GB HD.  The interface looks almost the same as the new interface that was reported by Neuros.  The Menu system is very similar but the MobiNote is a little annoying because it has a lack of buttons that(no Menu button, 3way access button instead of the 4way) the 442 has.  It supports .srt subtitles and has a bookmark feature for videos--Only downside of this firmware is that it doesn't support full screen mode and no Xvid(can be bypassed by using FourCC changer and changing info to Divx), it only displays the exact resolution that the video is which is kind of annoying(though perfect for 740x480 videos).

I am not sure but I think this item is probably using the same hardware w/ a slightly different firmware only.  If Neuros wanted to give us a firmware, I am sure it could be done already since this firmware seems to be from Eastech also.

BTW, this thing was only $208 (sold out now though) so I'm really tempted to return the 442 if a new firmware doesn't come out soon.

I followed the link and didn't think The Mobinote 7010 looks anything like the 442 and it costs close to $650 USD to purchase.

since the software is usually linked to hardware, chances are that if the buttons are different, it will not work well, if at all.  there may be other subtle differences as well.  it sounds like the other firmware isnt as good anyway....

It was on clearance at Walmart under the Macvision name but same item as MobiNote.  http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4200472&sourceid;=40882985952934761525

Someone dissassembled the unit already and it seems that it is using the newer Texas Instrument chip that the 442v2 will use(I think if I'm reading the chip correctly).  From the pics it seems that the TI DSP chip being used is the TMS320DM270.

Since chip is different, I don't think I will attempt any crossflashing.  Sucks that MobiNote crippled the firmware on purpose since the classic version supported Xvids and Full Screen Mode but after upgrading the f/w, you can't revert back to the old firmware.
