Over the last two weeks, I'd been having trouble with my headphones that would sometimes require me to jiggle the connection or push it in or pull it out slightly or... you get the idea. I figured it was the headphones, and I was just biding my team until I bought a new pair. Anyway, a few days ago it just stopped working completely. I tested with an alternate pair of headphones, and they didn't work either. So I figure the jack is busted. Now that the Neuros II isn't manufactured anymore, is it still possible to get this repaired? I'm not entirely comfortable with opening it up and fiddling myself if this is a simple repair that can be done by DI. Is this a relatively easy repair? How much might it be, and how long might it take? If it's really too much, I suppose I could find someone who is comfortable taking it apart, but... bleh.

i dont think it would be very expensive (less shipping).  It sounds like a resolder is needed.  You might be able to take it apart yourself and look at it if you have a T6 screwdriver.  if you can see the problem (such as a solder) you may be able to fix it.  otherwise you should send it in.

REPAIRS ARE STILL OFFERED AS FAR AS I KNOW.

We do still support all Neuros DACs. If you would like to send it in, please email us at Support@neurostechnology.com and we will be more then happy to fix you up. Derek sounds like he nailed the problem, a loose headphone jack. A simple resoldering should be all that you need.

Alright, so I'm looking at my options now. So I've got the offer from DI to fix it if I send it for a few weeks, but I also go to college with a lot of engineering folks. How easy is this kind of repair? What level of experience would you trust someone to have before fixing something like this? How dangerous is it to the unit? If someone followed the directions and it still didn't work, would DI still fix it, and would the price change?

Whoever fixes it will have to know how to solder, and should have some experience. (but maybe not if you are a quick learner).  How dangerous this is depends really on your skill....if you go to resolder one little pin and end up getting solder all over the board...that could be bad.  although, since your board is already broken, you cant really break it too much more with this repair unless you are totally careless. I would think that Neuros would still do it if you could not.  As long as you do not do any more damage to the unit....and when you were done...ahh....ahh...make it look like you never tried to do it yourself....i would guess it would be fine.

if you are really in need, i would take a look at it for you and see if i could fix it.  The turn around time for me would be quicker than sending it in to Neuros...but depending on whats wrong...i may not be able to fix it.

if you have any more questions feel free to send me an email.
