So when turning on my Neuros I've received the following message...

"Initializing disk...
Loading file system...
Initializing disk...
HDD FORMATING...
THIS MAY TAKE UP TO 30 MINUTES!
FATAL ERROR, failed to reformate HD!"

And it won't do anything else.  The only way I can get it to turn off is to reboot by pressing and holding Up button and Play button at the same time.  Then, upon pressing and holding play to restart, I get the same message.

Any suggestions?

oh, I have some very important information on this as well and would like to get that information off.

Anyway of fixing the Neuros without losing my info?

When I switch to "SAFE MODE" it informs me that by either formatting the Hard Disk or the NAND Disk that data on disk will be permanently lost.

Please Help.

reformating the nand will only delete files if you have the files on the flash part of the device (faceplate) if you dont use the faceplate and the smaller backpack then you dont have to worry about anything getting deleted.  The message they give you is kind of scary, but if you just clear the nand, you wont lose anything on the hard drive (note: if you format the disk, you will lose everything.)

Derek - I had dropped my Neuros N1 about6 weeks ago. and I kept getting a clicking noise and it wouldn't come on for more than 1 second. I went to the forums and they suggested the short sharp shock to the side of it. I tried this and there was no improvement. I took it apart and took the HD out reassembled it and still nothing. So I ordered a new Hitachi 20G HD and everything went well as stated in the DIY section of cool4u2view. But now I get the same Fatal Error that Trevor got. I tried going into Safe Mode and that doesn't help. I tried the smack again nothing. Any suggestions? I ahte to think that I threw good money away on a new HD. I love my N1, i was only up to "G" of the 3 or 4 thousand song I had on it. [8]
