1) The connection the supplied cables make do not appear to be good.  The slightest movement, and the picture is messed up or disappears.

2) "Auto Record" feature.  Is there anyway to permanantly set this?  Not having a screen to look at makes it difficult to use "remotely".  I'd really love it if it were possible to set the unit to automatically record everythime a source is plugged in... not just the first time.

3) Along the same lines as above.  It would really be useful if the unit remembered the "last" function it was used with. For instance... recording.  Turn the unit back on, and it already in Record mode, so all a user would have to do is press the record button.  Instead of having to navigate to record mode.  Not a big deal unless you're trying to do it without a screen.

The settings you are using are kept as long as you keep the unit connected to an electrical outlet. They are also kept if you unplug the units for a few hours (I have to get back to you on how long the settings are kept before they get back, if ever, to the default settings). If you set up the resolution to VGA/ fine, the next time you power the unit on, it will keep these settings. You can start a recording without having to go through the online screen. In other words, power the unit on, press the recording button, and you will record a files with the VGA/fine settings (or whatever other settings that was used during your last recording).

It will work the same for the Auto Record option. If it is selected, it will become the default setting. You will see that you can not use the Timer Recording option and have the Auto Record option on On at the same time though.

When I tested it, if the unit was on movie record and the unit was shut off, even for a coule seconds, it reverts back to "photo" and will not record movies without going through the menu.

Same with the auto record.  Even when the unit is kept powered on.  I set it, and plug a source in, and it records as I would expect.  When I unplug the source, it stops.  If I plug a source back in... nothing happens.  I have to go back into the settings and turn on auto record.

From what you're telling me, is it possible I received a defective unit?

I think your unit is fine. Make sure you don't have any recording scheduled if you want to keep the Auto Record option active.

You don't have to be in the recording menu to start a recording when you press the recording button on the remote.

I might be missing something, but let me try a few more thinsg and I will get back to you.
