Video Black level (Brightness) is too high.

My recently purchased MPEG-4 Recorder 2 works great, but the black level on both the recording preview screen and on the recorded files is distractingly too bright and the video looks washed out. (As if the brightness of the TV is set too high.)
This is also the case if I play the files back on my computer or PSP.
I don't believe it is a problem with my video source (a VCR) or my TV, since if I bypass the Neuros and connect the video source directly to my TV, everything looks fine.
Is there a way to adjust the Black Level (brightness) when recording?
Anyone else experience this problem and came up with a solution?

Hello Mark,
What setting are you recording at(WQVGA, QVGA or TV VGA)? Are you using the econonmy, normal, fine or superfine quality setting in the recorder menu? You can access the menu by going into the full screen recording mode and pressing the menu button.
Also, have you tried recording from a DVD player or another video source other than your VCR?
Try recording from a different video source and see if you still get the same results.

I can confirm a similar observation on my N1 with Normal quality, although it didn't bother me enough for me to mention it previously. Sometimes it looks a little brighter/washed out, and sometimes it just looks like the color depth has been greatly reduced (and it very well may have been, I'm not sure).
It seems to affect all input sources, although I'm not sure. I would call it kind of a "pastel" appearance. It is much more noticeable on a TV than on my PowerBook or iPaq.
