I am just curious if the Recorder 2 will still be available after the recorder 3 is later released? I really like the recorder 2 and I am developing my own surveillance system around it.  I really like the fact that I can remove the CF card and pop in a new one.  Will the recorder 3 also have the option of removeable cards or will it only support the internal hard drive?

Yes the Recorder 2 will still be available after the Recorder 3 is released. check out our wiki for updates on the Recorder 3, but to answer your question, like the R2, it will support flash cards.
