Hi there. I recently ordered the Neuros II 80GB closeout item from this site without really knowing the full story of what this little machine can do and all of the problems people have with it. In other words, I was going off the recommendation of others out there on the 'net and wasn't aware of these forums.

Anyway, I bought the device mostly for recording audio and I couldn't figure out how to do that for the life of me. The instruction manual included is completely useless as it doesn't mention double-clicking on the record button if you want to record audio. If you just press the record button, something called "HiSi" happens and I can only do a 30 second clip.

So I find out that the latest firmware disables HiSi altogether. I would like that very much (what the heck is HiSi anyway?)... except I can't seem to install the firmware. I follow instructions and unplug the USB cord and power off the Neuros. Next I turn it on by holding down and play. A special screen tells me to insert a USB cord and begin downloading the firmware. So I plug the tiny proprietary USB cord back in and nothing happens. The Neuros is not picked up by Windows XP as a logical drive no matter how hard I push on the tiny USB jack (yes, I seem to have the connection problems a lot of people are having re: a loose USB port).

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Okay, sorry, that's it.

This Neuros II 80GB is going back.

I hope I can return it as I bought it on this site as a close-out item. This thing simply doesn't work. Now I can't even connect to my PC. The thing just hangs no matter how tight the usb connection is.

Guess I'll buy an iRiver instead. [Sad!]
