hi,

i'm new here.  i just purchased the n2 mp3 player because it is a very good deal for an 80 gig player.  been searching around for a player that uses a regular 2.5" laptop drive.  thank you neuros.

anyway, i passed up the 442 in favor of the newer 442 everyone is waiting on.  any news on when this is coming out.  i'd like to get this also.

There has not yet been a date released yet by Neuros. You are certainly not alone in waiting for the New 442.

-_- People are becoming annoying with the demands from the new model. Just be patient. "GIMME NEW MODEL NOW" kind of thing is rude to the people working trying to make this happen. i guess its goog to see people wanting to new model so bad. But just be patient [Wink]

These boards seem to be dead otherwise.

Now that LOST is done for the season, I'm guessing my 442 will stay parked for the foreseeable future.  It would be nice to know when.

Of course we're trying to be patient but it seems that there is no support for the current 442 or progress on the new 442.  I hear good things about the Cowon A2 and that product is getting firmware updates all the time unlike us.

I will have to agree that demanding to know when the 442v2 will be out is kinda offensive.

Unfortunutaly, I think most would like some kind of update as to when the product will be available.  There is a mark in the Wiki (yeah, yeah, yeah, unreliable source) that the 442v2 would be out 2Q06.  If I can read a calendar correctly, there is less than a week befor we go into 3Q06...

I think its cool that Rasterman is working on the UI, and it is going to take him some time befor his end will be done.  Expecialy at the glacial speeds of doing things natively, but does the hardware exist yet?  Should we be expecting them in time for Xmas?  Will the 442v2, R2, and N3 all be released at once?

PS-> The 442v1 costs less than the A2 and has twice the hard drive of the A2, so I dont realy see much compatition between the two, even more so when the v2 comes out.  If the v1 supported FLAC I would buy it now, but since all the next gens will be open, I know I can add it in later.  All I have to be is patient.

a Friend of mine purchased a Cowon A2 with 30GB for $375 at Newegg.com,
It is very nice but the big drawback is it does not record.
Archos Pocketdish that will download Thru USB on my dish DVR receiver as well as record from analog has been tempting me.
I belive however Neuros goal is to release the best player/recorder possible. Please try and give them the time and breathing room to make it happen.
I totally belive in Neuros and the 442V2 and will wait for it.

I forgot that the A2 can not record.  That still goes to show that the 442 is twice the product as the A2 and still costs less.

I have been following in the wings for who knows how long (when was it first publicly mentioned that neuros was going open?) so as to purchase their product.  I do not wish for them to rush it out the door and start releasing patches every few days like some products.  Keeping an eye on the forums and developer boards tends to lend one to the thought that product probably wont be available until after Thanksgiving, although the Wiki has second quarter marked as the expected date.

I actualy got rather stoked when I first saw that Wiki entry.  Someone may wish to change it.  People screaming "Please be patient" is not going to correct the view that some has picked up that the 442v2 will be out soon or do anything else other than errode ones patience.

I am not asking to have it in my hands right now.  Seeing whats in being chatted about in the developer list, I dont want what they have right now.  I just wish to know, how long should I go back to sleep for?  I do not wish to bother the devoloper lists as they have plenty of things on their plate.

PS-> Just found the Wiki page, and I was wrong.  It mentioned First Quarter.

I just checked the Specs on there website and it can record video.
My friend just didn't know everything it could do when I asked him.

The silence regarding the features and release date for 442v2 is indeed disturbing. There never was an adequate explanation as to why 640x480 recording, which was promised as an immediate upgrade for v1, was never implemented. The audio features are barely features (a $29 mp3 player does better), and the 2 firmware upgrades so far have not adddressed a single priority item on our wish lists. In the meantime, archos and cowon are building and enhancing mature products.

I have decided to invoke my money-back return option on my v1 this week and spend my refund (whenever that shows up) elsewhere.

I'm thinking the same thing if the v2 isn't released anytime soon.  It's only 4 more weeks till Q3 and we haven't heard anything.  It doesn't matter if the product is good or not but our money is getting wasted waiting for the v2 since I can return the v1 for $330 and just buy the refurbished v1 directly from Neuros on ebay for only $199.  If Neuros takes any longer to have the v2, they will probably have to lower the market price especially if Archos and Cowon does so w/ their PMPs then the upgrade options are no longer as enticing.  Of course, my decision all depends on the pricing scheme for the v2.

So did it work ?
Is the process of "early" return documented somewhere ?

Not only do we get NO updates on what is going on with development but the google group also has VERY little activity. I wonder how many people are working on it full time (if any).

Some information and a reasonable timetable would be really nice.
