I have like 30gb of music on my 40gb Neuros II and if I want to change the tags on multiple tracks it takes an exponentually longer amount of time.

1 is like instant. 5 takes a few seconds. 15 takes a few minutes. 30+ takes like... lets leave the computer and do something else.

Same with removing software, but on the Sync phase. I want to delete 100 tracks? 20 minutes. Why? When I explore onto the unit, the tracks are gone nearly instantly. The 20 minutes is removing the records from the database or something.

Is there any 3rd party software that works better for this? Anyway to "clean up" the database to make it go faster or something?

I know I could move all my files to my PC and retag them, then re-upload them all again to the Neuros, which would take like 12 hours of up/downloading and seems to be my best bet. I can't do it on the Neuros because the changes to the tags won't be in the database it keeps.

There is something to be said for the Archos MP3 players (the last one I had). Plug it into the computer, drag music onto it. Unplug it and play the music.

You can avoid the database management entirely by not using the synchronization software and simply dragging and dropping your MP3s into the "MUSIC" folder and using the Neuros file browser instead of the normal track navigation.

Alternately, NeurosDBM (http://neurosdbm.sourceforge.net) is synchronization software that, while flawed, is better than the software that comes with the system.

First off, thank you for the advice.

I really like the idea of bypassing the database management. I know where to add the music and even the format Neuros uses in it's file structure.

But when you say "and using the Neuros file browser instead of the normal track navigation." do you mean on the Neuros itself or on the Sync Manager software? Or do you mean the Neuros itself? The Neuros just "Neuros Audio" which sorts/filters where you'll see music.

It's worth a shot. Unless it goes deleting mp3/ogg files from the unit or crashes it, it can't really hurt things.

If you have the latest firmware for the Neuros, then the main menu of the Neuros itself should contain a "File Browser" option that allows you to navigate the hard drive of the Neuros as you would if it was connected to your computer.

I just synced with the Sync Manager Software last night (thus the posts of my problems) and I believe it said I got a firmware update installed, but this is all I see:

Neuros Audio
Play Queue
FM Radio
HiSi
PC Library
Settings

Version (I assume firmware) is 2.25.0137

"PC Library" is just a listing of what I have registered on my PC with the Sync Manager software.

I'll look into a newer update... or is there something I need to do to "reboot" the neuros to make sure the changes take effect?

-- Edit

Okay I found the update on the site and has special instructions "holding down and the power button to shutdown/startup" which I've never done before. So for all I know, every time it's said "Firmware Downloaded" It's just sitting on my computer somewere waiting for me to reboot my Neuros holding down the down key. Nice.

I'll admit to some schmuckery on my part, but perhaps if the Sync Manager issued instructions that might have helped as well. I'll see if it works when I get home.
