hi,

i just got my neuros n2 a couple of days ago,  charged it up, moved my music (about 40 gigs) to the backpack using just the windows explorer, and synced the db using ndbm.  i had heard that the sync process would really take a while, so when it finished within 5 minutes, i was pleasantly supprised.

anyway, i plan on using it mainly in my truck, so the lack of a car charger was a disappointment.  i'll get one from radio shack, so it's not a real problem.  the problem i have, however, is that the screen is too small to be used in the car.

is there anyway, through firmware changes, to allow for an attached external wired remote controller with a larger display through one of the two usb ports?  mount the remote controller up front and leave the neuros any where you want (under the seat, in the trunk, and in my case, behind the back seat of a truck).

hue.

it just occurred to me that since the whole package consists of the player and the backpack, that the player itself can be used as the remote.

what's needed is an "extension" pack that connects to the backpack where the player now docks.  this "extension" pack would have a wire leading to another module (much smaller than the backpack, obviously) that docks with the player.

how about it neuros?  this is pretty easy to implement.  no firmware changes needed.  all that's needed is to build the "extension" pack.  the basic concept is to use a bunch of long wires to connect the pins on the backpack to the pins on the player.

then i could leave the backpack behind the second row seats and permanently connected to the power supply.  and holding just the player to control the music would be so much easier.

Yeah, I think we've already talked about that.  I don't know if we came to a conclusion though . . .  but I think the resolution was that the longer the wires were, the more distortion there would be in the signal.  How much?  I wouldn't know, but I believe that was the only problem with that idea.  I thought it was a good idea at the time too.  I still not convinced that it isn't, but nothing has come of it in either sense.

do you mean that the data signals traveling between the backpack and the player would be distorted?  i don't see how since it's completely digital.  or is it just that the signal would weaken due to longer distances?  even so, i don't think that a 15 ft cord (about 5 meters) would affect it.  i am estimating it should be about 15 ft because the cord might have to be routed along whatever crevice is available.  it would be nice if it can be a straight line from the trunk to the front.

as far as the audio signal is concerned, the audio jack is still coming from the player unit, and that's up front...close to the head unit in the car.  same as it's always been and subject to whatever interference it experiences now.  but i've never experience an audio cable so poorly made that there is any noticeable interference.

yeah, I think that they were saying that the signal would weaken.  idk, it might just be the nature of the cable?

You also might get magnetic interference depending on where it was routed.  idk, I've ran out of helpful ideas.  ^_^
