Is there any way to get around the issue of commercials... or will I always have to skip over the recorded commercials while watching the show on my ipod. Also, do you hgave any idea if the recorder 2 can record movies/ episodes from HBO on demand?

As far as I know, there's no way to avoid commercials---like a vcr, it records what's playing. As far as on demand, if it's playing on your tv, you can pretty much record it.

I had heard something about programs on your computer that can edit out commercials. Does such a program exist?
