The letest firmware for the R2 (still) does not fix the problem of auto record on video input. Neuros have kown about this problem for at least the last two firmware releases (that I know of).

This feature is crutial if you want to use your R2 as a mobile PVR / security recorder and stop / start live recordings.

Being told by Neuros support to wait until the next firmware release does not help their credibility when that release does not fix the problem.

It's nice to see people innovate (ExNavy) and cook up external hardware solutions for what is essentially a software problem - I'm now wondering if the firmware will ever include this fix given the time Neuros have spent letting others cook up hardware workarounds.

For me the wait has been too long. I've sold my R2 and bought something else. In the time it's taken Neuros to look at this problem, others have designed and maufactured competing products....

I totally agree.  As long as well-meaning folks like Ex-Navy talk about selling after-market stuff that might make the R2 work as originally advertised (and probably void the warranty, by the way), I doubt that Neuros will ever come out with a firmware to fix the auto-record problem.  Neuros should at least have the gonads to admit whether or not this can be fixed and if so, when we can expect something.

I have steered others away from this device until they get this fixed.  Thanks, but no thanks Ex-Navy, I think you have convinced Neuros to never fix this problem.

Hi Skeeter,
My world around the R2 is outside in the elements.
The Neuros folks do an excellent job at what they do. No other
product offers open source, and excellent forum like this to
express ideas and get help.

Our idea was to take the R2 beyond its capabilities by hacking it
hardware wise.
Even if the firmware was fixed, it does not solve our desire to get
outdoors with it. It has no record button, no battery, no external
camera.

We, like alot of other forum members like to go beyond the 115 volt
wall outlet.

Our IR LED circuit is not a "fix" it just gives us the capability
to record with all the other things we added. (battery, camera, audio)

Let Neuros folks do what they do best, they do it the best!
