Did any body notice this on the Open Neuros Site:

http://open.neurosaudio.com/node/313

The topic of the page is "Gapless Ogg playback now available on the N2"

It's based off the older 2.26 firmware, so no filebrowser, but for gapless playback, that might almost be worth it. Has any one checked this out?

I am currently using this firmware and have not had any troubles with it.  its works great and all my pink floyd albums sound so much better now. [Smiley]

You aren't kidding, it's smooth and slick!

I'll miss the File Browser, gets me out of database flaw pinches pretty well, but it was always hard to navigate: would never let you move around unless the HD was spinning and streaming the file system up to the CPU. *shrug*

It is definitely a more trimmed down FW. The DJ tools have been removed (which I thought were the second neatest unused feature, after HiSi), and Neutris is thankfully history too. I know someone busted their ass to make a neat little game in the Neuros, but it's a music player, not a game console. That’s why I have a PSP.

I haven't tried the gapless with any thing but Ogg files so far, but holy Jesus, to watch that "Now Playing" screen switch from one song to the next with out so much as a burp in my sweet sweet tunage is the coolest thing to happen to the Neuros in a year.

Assuming any one else out there cares what I say, go remind your selves how to update the firmware in your sexy little music brick (how long has it been?! A year?!) and slap this slick little guy in. Makes a world of difference.

Pardon me, I have to go stick my Neuros down my pants now...ohh yeeah.

This firmware is awesome. Gapless playback on mp3s is as good if not better than it is for Ogg files - "The Wall" plays completely seamlessly in mp3. I've been thinking lately about getting a new player (I've had my N1 for 3 years now) but performance on this one is really untouchable now. I've been using the GarBage firmware for the last year and will miss a couple of its features but gapless playback cannot be beat - you don't even realize how much you miss it until you get it back.

Yennix is right - upload this firmware immediately and you might be willing to wait for the N3 before getting a new player.

Very nice feature, Thankyou for the effort.
I'll miss the 'add to que' feature and here in the UK having the Ncast step in 0.1 increments would be good.

It's good to know that people are still working on squeezing more out of the unit.

Thanks

Shaun

PS.
I have lost my USB2.0 lead, does anyone have a spare kicking around?

You can browse the database much more quickly with this firmware. The only problem I'm having is every time I plug in the Neuros I have to rebuild the database. I could try switching to Sorune and see if that helps, but I never liked Sorune.
