1) If you would like something now, you should buy it. The Neuros III will not be out for a while... Q4 2007?
2) I have used the neuros to record many times. to boot the unit and then start recording it would take about 10 seconds total. About 5 for booting and 5 to initialize recording. I do not really see a problem with this, as I always start it early and edit the file later. You can tell when it starts recording so not a big deal.
3)NDBM supports mac. you can get it here:
http://neurosdbm.sourceforge.net/ It is not that technical to use, most people use it instead of the official software.
I have been happy with mine as far as recording. The interface could use a little refinement, but similar recorders in musicians magezines cost 300-400 dollars and usually do not have a hard drive.
