Hi,

Neuros have finally posted a patch for the R2 which enables the autorecord feature. I thought the news was worthy of a new topic !.

http://www.neurosaudio.com/support/support_MPEG4_R2updates.asp

This should open up usage of the R2 away from the living room. I hope that people will contribute details of their projects through the forum, perhaps Neuros could create a download area for video clips.

Cheers

Hi,

Maybe I spoke too soon....

I have just installed all the updates up to 0019 with no problems. Trying to upgrade to 0020 causes the R2 to hang and there is no sign of the "clock" to show that the process is taking place. Have tried this 3 times now.

Can Neuros or someone else please confirm that this update can be installed.

Cheers

Further to my last....

Neuros have now posted the correct file for the 0020 firmware update so anyone else who thought they were going nuts can be assured of their sanity.

I am glad the autorecord feature now works but I realise that this will not really benefit people who want to use the R2 as a stand alone recorder without the remote control. It's a shame the unit cannot wake up from "off" when a video signal is present. The remote is required to switch the system on and then the autorecord works fine. No matter, anyone who wants to use it as a security device will be well pleased.

I guess this news will also be welcomed by Ex Navy as the Olson device will still be required by anyone that wants total control through a single switch.

Cheers

There are a few ways to use the auto record function, but you are correct, the unit needs to be ON for it to work.

As Dongle mentioned, it will be very useful in security devices.

DVR users (like TiVo) should also find this option very useful as you can now program your DVR for playback or recording (s)  and have a recording done simultaneously on the Recorder 2.

If you have some feedback on how to use this feature, you can post something or the forum, or create a section on our Wiki.

Thanks-

This is a great fix!  It will help me out a lot.  BUT... I still found a problem with it.

When set to Auto Record, if you manually record, it shuts off the auto record permanently.  You then have to go back in to the menu and turn on auto record again.

I thought this was awesome but perhaps I spoke too soon... although upgrading my firmware did make improvements to Auto Record, it made my Timer Recording option literally nonfunctional... it just wouldn't record anything, even if Auto Record was disabled and Timer was enabled the same was as before. It became so frustrating that I ultimately downgraded. I would be glad to just use Auto Record if they would fix the threshold issues that have been around since the NR1, but they apparently haven't. (I'm referring to the device's tendency to turn off and back on if the signal strength becomes even just slightly weak, even if it looks fine on the TV or if recorded in Timer mode.)

Well I posted it in the ideas for improvements but I'll repeat it here.  As have many others.

AutoRecord should stay turned on after use!

How hard can that be?  (Rhetorical question, don't answer!)

Thanks for a good product and the opportunity to suggest ways to make it better . . .

bobkart, the whole point of this topic is that it has already been fixed. The problem is that the update caused more harm than good, for me at least.

It's not fixed on my recorder which I just got earlier this week.

Are you sure you installed the update correctly?

I didn't install any updates.  I got the recorder less than one week ago (it was shipped September 21st).

Since this Topic was started September 1st I guess I figured the update would have been made to the recorder prior to being shipped.

So you are saying that with the update in question, AutoRecord will stay set even after an AutoRecord-initiated recording ends?

Anyway, the audio is hosed on my unit so I will no doubt be getting another one from Neuros.  Maybe they could include the latest firmware this time.

Yes, pretty much anytime you purchase software from a retail box, it's pretty safe to assume it will be out of date by the time you open it.  Tongue

It takes time to manufacture the devices and distribute them to retail channels. You can see the version of your firmware on the settings screen - version 2.0.22 is the current version.

Okay thanks for the help.

I had 2.0.013.  Just upgraded to 2.0.022.

AutoRecord now seems to work (stay turned on after a recording) with one exception.  If you power off during a recording it still turns off AutoRecord.  Not too bad, the normal situation in my application (for ending a recording) will be to turn off the video signal so I don't expect to power off during a recording.

Now I just need support to respond to my email about the broken audio on my unit.
