I want to make an appeal for CompactFlash (CF) cards (vs SD) for storage devices.
Now, I know that SD is sexier than CF: CF is (relatively) bigger older and clunkier looking. But SD is a closed specification; if you ever want to open the Neuros to hackers, CF is the way to go.
And CF is well supported by Linux. CF is very IDE-like and very PCMCIA-like. In fact, you can support CF under the Linux PCMCIA subsystem and have not only flash storage, but CF modems, CF networks, CF wireless networks, etc. How cool could that be?

From observing trends in memory for PC's: If you go with a format that's already past its prime, then all too soon you find the cost going UP instead of DOWN because manufacturers stop making it. Then it becomes altogether unavailable.
At least in cameras and PDA's precious few current models still use CF. Canon was one of the holdouts, but recent new models have gone to SD.
