16  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - Feedback and Discussion / Re: Attn Joe B, Derek, FJ -- please share with your... on: August 28, 2006, 06:12:36 AM
We're going to have an open meeting online to discuss this.  You are all welcome to attend and ask questions.  I'll post more after that.
details on http://open.neurostechnology.com/node/332  you can participate by going to our web IRC site: http://open.neurostechnology.com/cgiirc/

I missed the live meeting but went and looked at the log and there was very little discussion or information about the 442V2 presented.
From what was posted It looks like you have a schematic for the 442v2 but thats as far as it has progressed.
Everyone seems to be working the OSD and The one person working on the 442v2 was also pulled off to work the OSD.

The Main question we have all been asking still remains unanswered.
When is the projected ship date of the 442v2 upgrade to the Gamma group?

The Original  paid discounted upgrade for the Gamma group sounded good last year.
Today however you can buy a more advanced full featured PMP/PMR right now for less than the Gamma group paid for the very limited feature 442 we have now.
New software updates and improvements have stopped and its just sitting gathering dust now as it not a very usable platform in the current state for what I require.
Im guessing the 442v2 likely won't be available for another 6-12 months at the  Earliest.
Does Neuros plan to revise the upgrade offer?

If your getting near DVD quality playback to a TV than maybe the problem is just poor build quality of the R2.
I did have alot of problems with the cable connection to the unit initially and noise rolling thru the video that I was able to correct.
Playback on a TV is still poor quality however so I assume I just have a Bad R2 based on your feedback.

I have tried really hard to be patient and keep the faith but Im getting frustrated with Neuros at this point.

I have been really surprised and disapointed by the lack of community and open and honest communication from Neuros to Gamma Testers on these Fourms.
Gamma testers have pleaded for information and updates yet nothing substantial has been forthcoming to date.
The sense of direction seems to be approaching a Failed experiment status from a Gamma testers perspective and still Neuros makes little or no effort to even attempt to turn this perception around.

Im not involved in the developer google group but do keep up by reading the latest posts and the focus has all moved to the OSD with little or no talk about the 442.
From the Reading of these areas i get the general sense of a disfunctional development project.

Having said all that, I'm still very happy with the nr2 because I bought it for use with my PSP and to that end, I very satisfied with its performance.  I consider the nr2 captures for audio/video playback on my PSP to be outstanding.

I agree the R2 is designed for use with portable devices and it does shine in that area.
Im alittle annoyed however That Neuros also claims its near DVD quality when displayed on a TV and I can't get results anywhere close.
My main intrest in the 442 and R2 was for a compact device that can record and playback content on Hotel TV sets when on Travel.
So far my results have proved poor from both devices.

Video qulaity looks great when R2 recordings are played back on my 442 built in screen but No matter what I try I can not get good quality playback on a 27 inch TV using the Recorder 2 even in VGA superfine recording mode.
My DVD recorder using the same recording source in comparison looks great when displayed on a TV.
Maybe I just have a bad recorder 2 if others are getting good quality results when displayed on a standard def TV.
My main use has been to record content and then transfer to my 442 for playing back on TV's at Hotels when on Travel.
The quality has been such a disapointment that im better off recording to DVD's and using my laptop to connect to the TV for playback.

Am I expecting too high a level of video recording quality from the R2 and 442 to expect it to be on Par with a basic settop DVD recorder?

I have tried recording from my dish Network DVR and DVD Player.
The Video quality recorded on the R2 looks Great on my Handheld but is just not up to snuff when played back on a TV.
I agree with FJ, using QVGA looks about the Best when played back on my TV.
I hope the OSD can playback VGA on a TV with quality results.
23  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: CF to MS. on: July 31, 2006, 06:20:17 AM
It looks to me that the recorder 2 can not access or read CF and MS
at the sametime. You can use one or the other but not both at the sametime so you will not beable to copy from one to the other without using a computer.
24  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: iso files on: July 29, 2006, 06:53:56 PM
You would need to burn the ISO files to a blsnk DVD that you could then play in your DVD player.
then Connect the DVD player to the R2
25  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - I need help! / Re: 442 won't Connect. on: July 29, 2006, 07:24:58 AM
If it works on the AC adapter but not on battery power the problem is very likely with the battery itself or battery supply circuit.
I have run across other failed devices (NOT THE 442) that would incorrectly show a good battery charge when the battery was actually low.

Scanman,
Thanks for posting your hardrive replacement experience.
Can you clarify if 442 operating system files need to be copied to the new harddrive or not?
It sounds like from your post the 442 has a internal ROM that will format and install the OS when a new hardrive is detected.
27  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - Feedback and Discussion / Re: This Site on: July 21, 2006, 06:00:31 PM
The 442 Is no longer listed in the Neuros product section.
This was done most likely  because its no longer being offered for sale.
All the rest of the 442 info like Wiki, manual, software upgrade page, gamma purchase upgrade options and forum are still available.
28  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Video Quality on: July 13, 2006, 06:11:34 AM
I have been experiencing the same problem when recording VGA in super fine mode. PLayback on a TV has pixelation and is not of the quality I would have expected.
Im also noticing the playback does not have smooth fluid motion and I detect a jerky movement quality to the playback video when played back on a TV.
I can not detect these same problem issues when played back on the 442 player.
29  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: White vertical bar walking thru video on: July 05, 2006, 09:58:08 AM
I tryed rotating and re-inserting the input and output cables several times befor posting but it only reduced the noise band slightly.
I also have the recorder plugged into a seperate AC outlet source.
The video jacks have a cheap feel to them so im not surprised they are a problem area.
I hope the recorder 3 has a better design and build quality.
30  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / White vertical bar walking thru video on: June 30, 2006, 02:07:01 PM
I just received a recorder 2 and when viewing video thru it and recording I get a vertical ghost white bar that moves right to Left
thru the video.
I removed the video cables and reinserted then all several times on the Recorder and TV to make sure I had a good connection but it was no help.

Anyone else seen this problem or know what causes it?
