31  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Mobile Neuros 2 on: August 13, 2006, 08:17:34 PM
You should stick with 5v input. + is center.

Confirm your remote is working. When you press the power button on
the remote, does the Neuros splash screen come on?
If not, if you have a digicam available, cellphone cam or webcam,
view the remotes LED through one of these devices. Press any button
on the remote. You should see the remote LED flashing.
If not, it is the remote.

I'm pretty techie, but I've never been able to get the unit to work at all. I have the recorder's input cable going to the out on my Dish TV box, and then out from the recorder going into the back of the TV. I get nothing. Just a blue screen. Nothing from the remote. I also tried the same configuration with my DVD player and still nothing. Any help is appreciated.

To check your remote, point the remote at a webcam or digital camera
lens. Look through the webcam or digicam when pressing a button.
If the remote LED flashes, then your remote is ok.
If not, request a remote

34  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: Auto record circuit for the recorder on: August 02, 2006, 08:57:13 AM
Barry has completed the prototype version of the IR circuit. PCB's
have been finalized and will go out for testing.
The circuit draws only 5 micro amps in sleep mode until it awakened
by the "on record" switch.
Once turned on, the unit automatically goes to record and remains in
record mode until switched off.

More info to follow in the next week.

I would like to commend Neuros on an excellent product, the R2.
Recently, we had 27 university students field test the units
and get their opinions. The response was very positive. Here in Toronto
they thought the units could be used for workers who use the subway
and Go transit systems to provide video on their travel to work.
Alot of them have smartphones, and IPODs. 4 have PSP's.
Alot have wondered whether they could connect directly to thier
digital set top boxes and download movies, prerecorded programs.

Well done Neuros!!

The pics and information regarding kits, pcbs, schematics, where to buy parts, etc will be available shortly.
We have to verify proper operation before releasing the details.

The R2 will record from any video source that has SCART or RCA composite video output.

Hi Skeeter,
My world around the R2 is outside in the elements.
The Neuros folks do an excellent job at what they do. No other
product offers open source, and excellent forum like this to
express ideas and get help.

Our idea was to take the R2 beyond its capabilities by hacking it
hardware wise.
Even if the firmware was fixed, it does not solve our desire to get
outdoors with it. It has no record button, no battery, no external
camera.

We, like alot of other forum members like to go beyond the 115 volt
wall outlet.

Our IR LED circuit is not a "fix" it just gives us the capability
to record with all the other things we added. (battery, camera, audio)

Let Neuros folks do what they do best, they do it the best!

The final design of the printed circuit card is finished and sent
to a manufacturer for quotes/production.
The circuit has to be enclosed in a box of some type to all our LED
to be placed in front of the R2 IR demodulator. We designed a
complete acrylic blue box that will enclose the entire R2 and the cct
You can see the CAD drawing at www.olson-engineering.com
The box design has also gone out for quotes last week.

We will know more about pricing once the two quotes come back.

I am planing to use the Neuros in a model aircraft, the video will come from an on-board Sony CCD board camera.

1. Any idea when the auto-start unit will be available?

2. Approximate cost?

3. Weight? important in model aircraft. Would it be possible to remove the Nanos from it's case, and use the 'bare board'.
I realise, of course that this would invalidate the guarantee. [V]

Hi MXracer95,
This is the same thing I wanted too. I had my car trunk broken into.
I lost $12,000 worth of test equip, laptop, etc.
The R2 is so small, records very good, I thought, why not make it
portable, make it record automatically by the press of a switch or
a motion sensor.
I have a small colour bullet cam with audio that takes have decent
video and audio.
I have gotten alot of emails about this, Bazamataz (user) is
co-developing a final product with us to introduce to users like
yourself.
We have Paddy, a motorcycle police officer in Australia interested
for his personal safety too.
The loop recording will be the next step in our endevours.
We will keep you up to date as to the progress.

Well I think I stumbled into the right thread.

I purchased my NR2 a few months ago because I want a permanent video recorder on my Yamaha R1.  What I hope to eventually achieve is to turn on the bike, and have video record automatically with no user intervention.  I also want it to loop record, so once the media is full, it begins to over-write existing data.  So I never have to touch the unit unless I need recent video.

For example, I want video the next time I crash into a car that pulls out in front of me as evidence of who is at fault.  Or the next time I get a ticket for driving on the shoulder I can have video evidence that I wasn't on the shoulder.

This auto record circuit is a big step toward that goal.  If you're looking for testers, I'd be happy to help.

41  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: Always on option? on: July 12, 2006, 08:50:46 AM
We have developed a circuit "add on" to the R2 that will
accomplish exactly this idea. It is being manufactured at present.
We love what Neuros has made, and alot of us want to add to it.

The box we developed will house the full R2 inside, complete with CF or SD card, AV in/out 90 degree connectors, seperate 12Vdc and 5Vdc external plugs (for helmet cams), and a power switch.
As soon as the power switch is turned on, the R2 powers up and goes
directly to record mode.
The switch can be replaced with a "normally open" dry contact motion
sensor so that the R2 can be used as a security device.
At present we are trialling a battery circuit and rechargeable lith-ion battery for long portable use.
The box will be constructed of ice blue fluorescent plexiglass.

Hello, new to the forums here.

I heard of the Neuros Recorder 2 shortly after getting my 5G iPod but never bought the R2 due to the lack of hard-drive.

I see in some of the posts here that, at least at one point, there was a planned release of a R2 with an internal hdd.  There was a tentative release date set for May.  Has its release been cancelled or merely delayed?

If its been delayed, is there a new release date?

If its been cancelled, does anyone know of a small, portable PVR that would compete with the R2's performance/price but would include an hdd?  I realize that the hdd itself would add to the cost.  I'm looking to spend less than $250 for a device that had at least a 10gb hdd.

Hi Pat,
There is no delay between key presses, however; the R2 will power up
and go through its splash screen. That is the only delay.
We drive a IR LED through a PIC. The same circuit board supplies 5Volts to the R2 and 12V for a headcam.
We will be working on including a mic preamp (to line level) and
a mux line in so that audio can be mixed with the video.
I have successfully mixed two audio sources and recorded live video
at the same time.
I thought it would be very cool to design an umbilical cord for
line audio, mic, power and video in to the unit for portable ops.
I hope to record some spectacular video with mixed audio in the next
week or so.
Any way that I can help you out, don't hesitate to ask

I have read your posts regarding the auto record feature, do you know if Neuros have fixed this yet ?. Also if I generate an external control signal what delay (if any) is required between commands/simulated key presses ?.

My application is on a small catamaran so I hope to just provide a single control to start/stop recording.

Cheers

Hi Pat,
The camcorder cable should work just fine. Here is the connector
configuration for the R2 cables:

Tip-White RCA (left channel audio)
Second Ring-Yellow RCA (Video)
Third Ring-Ground
Forth Ring-Red RCA (right channel audio)
