A quick question. What kind of subtitle-filetypes are supported on the 442? I've tried various filetypes and converters but not a single filetype works.
It would be cool if it would accept srt files or something.

For now, i'm trying to implement subtitles in the video but that's taking alot of time and dosn't always come out how it's supposed to be.

Ok, granted, the display isn't 'that' bigg but when atached to a TV or something, it would be nice to have some sort of subtitling enabled  Wink
As it's allready implemented in the 442, it simply doesn't work or uses a non-standard filetype?

If anyone has any solutions, don't hesitate to tell me.

Thanx in advance!

Okay ignore my comment re: the serial cable.  I didnt realize that PC stores sell null-modem cables generally as F-2-F
Here is the capture file.  In around line 290 you will see it reboots.  Let me know how else I can help.  I havent gotten around to putting a dev environment on any of my boxes, and likely wont for several days.

I updated to the Nov 2 release (emergency upgrade /newpackage/r3.upk) and it did seem to upgrade and then it started it endless reboot cycle.  Actually it upgraded twice because after it rebooted I forgot to take out the media card and had to wait until it finished again.  I can't change the ethernet setting (because I cannot get to the settings screen).  I tried with and without the cable pluged in.  The brief moment I did have it working (a week ago) I had set the IP address to static.

I get essential the same things I described earlier.

I will try and get a cable on it today.  BTW why did you ship a serial cable with a male end?  I would be all ready except that I need to go and get a F-2-F adapter.  Assuming I can get that working what would you like me to do?  Again assuming I can get it working I may be able to give you access.  Baby steps however.  I will let you know when/if I get the serial cable hooked up.

OF course...

Easy as you're recoding the recording with "Xvid" in resolution 320*240. As the recorded file is a higher resolution, by incrementing the resolution, the filesize will decrease as well as will the Xvid codec make the file also smaller in a way.

Basically any program for encoding can do the trick. But it's a nice help for alot of people.

Thanx for the tip  Wink

Well, for starters you shouldn't just forward any file (audio/video) straight to the 442. First you need to check what kind of codecs are used for encoding the movie/mp3. If the codec used isn't compatible for playback on the 442, then of course it won't work. You need to convert the file first on your pc/laptop and the put it on the 442. Also keep in mind that when the resolution of the movie exceeds the playable resolution of the 442 then you could get chocks, clicks and distortion in your videos as the 442 can only take 'so' much. Too bigg resolutions ask for more processing power and of course the 442 can only take 'so' much as stated in the Readme files and manuals

Hope to have helped you in any way...

Well, for starters, I would say, Nice work so far. I've been using the zolid PMP player with neuros 442 firmware with no problems at all.
I use it for mass storage capabilities at work and spare time. And in between play a movie or listen to some music while on the road/etc...

I have a few questions tho.
As i've read on the forums here, the support for the neuros442 has been put on a low profile (almost to a dead zero-activity even)
I totally understand the problems for keeping the 442 up to date when being hold back on hardware/issues.

The thing is, if there were some people interested in working on changes/updates on firmware basis, Would that be possible?
For instance, someone could make the menu work better/easier, and implement maybe some extra stuff in there. Although first thing is knowing how
the soft/hardware is setup to begin with. Perhaps there can be some excellent freeware/codecs implemented for more file-support. Although everything
has to work in cooperation with the hardware of the 442. The question is, if it can, why hqsn't it been done allready  Cheesy

Hope to hear some reactions soon.

anyone with the patience to help us with connecting serial to a PC, would be deeply appreciated, we'll send you a null modem adapter.  Given that we have 20 units internally and haven't seen this issue, I'm concerned that there's an environmental component to this problem.  Alternately, please return the unit directly to us (and we'll exchange or refund at your option) we really need to see some of these units or get diagnostic information to debug.

well, there are codecs and then there are file formats.  We have a pretty comprehensive list of video codecs (mpeg-2 and Mpeg-4, WMV9 SP and I need to check on mpeg-1) and audio codecs (mp3, ogg, aac, g.726, wav)  these combine to a long list of file types including DivX (yes, we're paying $/unit for it), Xvid, .mp4, etc.  and we're comitted to supporting every combination of the above that we possibly can.

We're definately seeing big improvements internally, although I think calling it stable is still a little optimistic, but we are getting there.   Now most of my files play (speaking personally) but there is still a random bug that crashes the unit while playing from 5 minutes to 1 hour, it seems to happen on a variety of files.  Recording is improved but still needs further work.  The chipset is plenty powerful to do as good a job at MPEG-4 recording as any hardware, but we're not quite there with the OSD yet.
