I Can't Retrieve Serial Number on HD20Gig Unit

I just got my neuros today.  I installed the software, then connected the device.  It says that I need to connect my neuros to get Serial Number.  Well, the device is connected, I can see the unit on windows explorer.  Still, it does not connect, and I can't get further than the get serial number screen.

I am using windows 2000 professional.

Any ideas?

You can see it in windows explorer, yes, but can you access it in explorer?

I can access it in windows explorer, yes.  I can open the serial number and version docs, as well as the backpack sn, and the recycled folder.

The NSM, however, insists the device is not conected.

Do you have the latest version of NSM?

I downloaded the latest version, and that took care of it.  Many thanks!  I appreciate it.  Now, time to load this bad boy up and take it for a spin.

I am also unable to get the serial number.  I downloaded the NSM and then the update as no software shipped with my player.  What to do now?
