computer not recognizing neuros

I was syncing my Neuros, and in the middle of the sync when it accidentally became disconnected.  now my computer wont' recognize it, and it won't turn off on it's own.  What do I do to fix it?

To force it to turn off, hold the play/power button and press up on the joy stick. You are then going to have to reformat the memory in the "brain". Put the unit in diagnostic mode by holding down the 1 and 5 buttons and then pressing play. The diagnostic mode should come up. If it doesn't, disconect the brain from the backpack, reinsert the brain and try again. In diagnostics, choose to select NAND Disk and then format NAND Disk. Don't worry about the warning message, the data on your hard drive won't be touched. Choose yes and when it is done, you should be back to normal.

I have a similar problem.  My 20G Neuros was connected to my PC when the PC shut down.
Now my PC will not recognize the device at all and I don't know what to do.
I am concerned that if I format the NANDisk my data will be destroyed.

Please help.

Formatting the NAND disk will not affect the  contents of the HD, it just clears any corrupted flash data you might have.

Follow-up question from someone else who was having a similar problem...only none of my buttons are working properly either.

I was going to add a couple of more CDs to my Neuros 80GB model, but when I connected it to my PC, the PC did not recognize it at all.  I needed to fill out the User Name and Backpack name when I ran the Synchronization Manager.  The Synch manager did not detect any of the songs that were already on the Neuros, despite the fact that I had been using it about 5 minutes prior to hooking it up to my PC.  I tried going ahead and re-adding all of the songs to the Neuros, but that didn't work.  My system locked up, and I had to do a hard power down.

I was able to get the power on by unplugging the Neuros, doing the "hard shut down" (up on the joystick and hitting the play button) and then plugging it back in.  If I do that while holding down 1 and 5, I get the diagnosis menu just fine:  "NAND Disk.  Hard Drive.  Exit"  shows up.  The problem now is that the joystick doesn't work at all.  If I try to turn it off normally using the power button, nothing happens there either.  The only way I can shut it down is the Up-Play combination

The Neuros is locked into place (I took it out and put it back in, just in case it had become dislodged somehow.) but I'm at a loss as to what to do next.  The only command that seems to work is the hard stop.  Any ideas?
