Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Picture Freezing

I am not the best one to explain this well, but I will take a shot at it and will try to keep it simple. It sounds like the playback issues you are having are due to fragmentations of the file you recorded. When you record a big file on a microdrive that already has info (video, audio or photos), the info will be saved on different segments of the microdrive. The bigger the file, the more fragmented it will be. For a file that is not too big (usually less than 1h), the playback should be smooth, but for bigger files, it is a lot more difficult to insure a smooth playback as the headers become really big. That is the main reason why most Video files are limited to a size of 2GB on pretty much all PMP and portable digital recorders. Removing the 2h limit of files is not so much of an issue as you can imagine, it is making sure that the bigger files will play smoothly that is a challenge. The best option would be to record long movies on a card or microdrive fornated prior to the recording. This way you will have no fragmentation and the playback will be smooth. If that is not possible, try to make sure you remove as many files as you can from the microdrives (back them up on your PC) prior to a recording. It will not be as good as formating the drive, since you will still have some fragmentation, but it should help. I hope that helps- If you want more info on the issue, see the following thread: http://neurostechnology.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6927FJ

Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Essential Tips?

I will let users comment, but here are a few tips: We updated the manual under the support section. I know most do not read it, but you will have a few things in there that might not be obvious by browsing through the menu. http://neurostechnology.com/pdf/Recorder2%20English_011606.pdf If you have a PSP, WQVGA is great for letter box format unless you have subtitles (it cuts off the top and bottom of the baclk band on the screen). Unless you playback content on a TV, there is really no need to use the VGA fine and superfine settings, use QVGA. Besides, most handhelds (PSP included) can not playback movies recorded at high bit rates and VGA resolution. This is why VGA files are saved in a separate TV folder. Once you have set the resolution and quality of recording you want, you don't need to go through the on-screen menu to set things up again. Power the Recorder and press the record button. The red light will confirm that you are recording. If you have a camcorder, the Auto Record settings is really useful as recording starts as soon as the a signal is fed to the recorder (the recorder has to be on). It can also be used with a TiVo or any PVR/DVR unit. That way, you can program your DVR the way you want and record content from different channels (quite nice considering the recorder does not have a tuner). I don't have a PVR myself so I can not tell you how to set that up, but others might be able to give you some tips. FJ

The settings you are using are kept as long as you keep the unit connected to an electrical outlet. They are also kept if you unplug the units for a few hours (I have to get back to you on how long the settings are kept before they get back, if ever, to the default settings). If you set up the resolution to VGA/ fine, the next time you power the unit on, it will keep these settings. You can start a recording without having to go through the online screen. In other words, power the unit on, press the recording button, and you will record a files with the VGA/fine settings (or whatever other settings that was used during your last recording).
It will work the same for the Auto Record option. If it is selected, it will become the default setting. You will see that you can not use the Timer Recording option and have the Auto Record option on On at the same time though.

If possible, format your card with your PSP. Then insert it in the MS slot as described in the manual (pins facing up). Make sure the card is firmly inserted in the slot. If you still do not see the card press the storage button. If that does not do the trick, call us at 1 866 5 NEUROS.

Let me clarify this warranty thing. If you look at the last page of your booklet that comes with the unit, there is language that states "This warranty does not apply to units that are damaged by accident". As you all know the unit has been designed to be used in a home. We knew that some of you would come up with uses we had not thought about. We also do everything we can to help you hack our products, which include some quite extreme uses like car racing, skiing, sky diving and even balloon flight experiments (I will add a video about this on our site later). That said, we’re inclined to give you the benefit of the doubt, but if you send us back a unit that was modified, whose casing has been removed, or a unit that was damaged or reduced to a few pieces in a car crash, you can imagine it will be quite hard for us to send you a new unit.
