I really like the recorder 2 and I am developing my own surveillance system around it.  I really like the fact that I can remove the CF card and pop in a new one.  Will the recorder 3 also have the option of removeable cards or will it only support the internal hard drive?

Yes the Recorder 2 will still be available after the Recorder 3 is released. check out our wiki for updates on the Recorder 3, but to answer your question, like the R2, it will support flash cards.

63  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Re: Would you reccomend it? on: April 11, 2006, 09:36:05 AM
This post is about the Recorder 1 it seems. If you want to playback content recorded with the Recorder 1 on a PDA, Pocket PC or Smartphone, you need to install the free TCPMP software (www.corecodec.com). The files created with the Recorder 2 will play just fine (Video + Audio). I imagine that this user had not installed TCPMP on his PDA yet.

If you have a PSP or an iPod, both hardware supports AAC audio, and will work great with the Recorder 2 (not the recorder 1). If you want to playback content recorded with the Recorder 2 on a PDA, you will have to wait as few weeks as we are working on a bundle for PDAs, POcketPCs and Smartphones. The audio codec used by the Recorder 2 (AAC) requires a customized TCPMP software with AAC support. You can also buy softwares that support MPEG4  video and AAC audio if you do not wish to wait.

As long as you have a satellite receiver box with RCA connection (which you should have), yes you can use the Recorder with it.
You have several recording quality you can set up for a recording:
QVGA and WQVGA for playback on a Handheld, you can record 143 minutes to 250 minutes (for Normal and Economy Settings respectively on a 1GB card)
For playback on a TV, use the VGA with Fine and Superfine Quality ( 111 minutes and 60 minutes of recording respectively on a 1GB card). If your video source is "clean", like a DVD, the quality will be nice, better than VHS. If you record form a source that is "noisy" quality will be lower, but still nice enough to watch on a TV. Go over our review page, some reviewers posted clips of videos with the different settings.

Does the Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 supports 20GB or 40GB drives? I plan on buying this adapter and use the Neuros with a hard drive instead of a CompactFlash card.

Hard to tell without testing. I know the Datel 4GB HD works well with the Recorder, but it is hard to say for certain that this set up will work out too. If anybody has tried it, please send us some feeback.
Thanks

69  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Recorder 2 1.03.0090 Firmware upgrade on: April 07, 2006, 05:00:43 PM
We just added a new firmware upgrade on our site in the support/upgrade section. The upgrade is very simple. Here is the link: http://www.neurostechnology.com/support/support_updates.asp

The new firmware will add support for 4GB and 8GB Seagate Microdrives. The new interface will also support 6 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Chinese.

Note that we have 2 versions of teh Firmware, 1 for the US version witha NTSC default setting and one for the european version with a PAL default setting.

Make sure you follow the instructions and do not hesitate to call 866 5 NEUROS or email us at support@neurostechnology.com if you have any questions. We will be happy to walk you through the steps if need be.

We will add the latest firmware version on our site next week I believe.  Most Recorder 2 with a 1.3.61 firmware should work with at least a few CF to SD/MMC adaptors like eagletek. We will have adaptors on sale on our site in 2 to 3 weeks.

Try the format the card with the Recorder 2 and try again.

73  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - I need help! / Re: 442 locks up/reboots during playback on: April 05, 2006, 05:10:36 PM
Sorry for the belated answer on this. I would simply reinstall 1.2.4 (make sure you follow the upgrade instructions). We can not reproduce it here yet. I believe JEFFH is right, if you reinstall the firmware version 1.2.4 the problem should go away. Before you do it though, I would try to record a movie with the new firmware and see if the playback is OK (if you have not done so already). If it is the case, you probably have headers issue. Reincoding the files would probably solve this, but it is quite time consuming.

Let us know how that works out.

74  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - Feedback & Discussion / Contest to win a Recorder 2 on Rainy Day Magazine on: April 04, 2006, 11:49:38 AM
Rainy Day Magazine just announced that they will give away a Recorder 2 at the end the month (April 2006):

"Many of you have written to us about the NeurosCAM project.  Some also have great ideas about other uses for the Neuros 2 Digital MPEG-4 recorder. Well, here is your chance to get a Neuros (Recorder)2 of your very own!  All you have to do is send in a the most interesting, creative, or unique use for one... as judged by our crack group of interns.  If different folks send in the same or substantially similar brilliant idea, the one with the earliest email time-stamp wins. BTW, bribing the editor is entirely acceptible, but unlikely to help."
Find all the details at http://www.rainydaymagazine.com/RainyDayMagazineHome.htm#WinANeuros2

Best of luck to all of you.

Hope you can recover the files. There are a few tools to do that out there, but I don't know any free ones. You will have to reformat your card before you record again though.
