1  Neuros OSD / Neuros OSD - I need help! / Re: Arg.....OSD keeps rebooting on: Today at 01:24:16 PM
I just received my OSD and it seems to have the same problem described here by others.
It comes up with the bootup screen and starts to load files. sometimes it completes the file load and sometime it does not.
The unit clicks and then I get pass thru video from my input source. A few seconds latter it clicks again and I get the OSD bootup screen and we begin the endless bootup cycle all over again.
I can sometimes get into the setup menu for a Min or two befor it reboots itself sometimes I can't even do that.
The only conections I have on the OSD are Power,Video in and out and I have a 1 Gig CF inserted.
I have not been able to update to the latest firmware but it doesn't sound like that would help even if I could.
The Packaging looked Great, Too bad the hardware/firmware can't even function properly as a basic recorder yet.
Very disapointing !

we have extended the no questions asked return policy so that you can decide when the 442v2 comes out if you still want it.  At that point you'll have had use of the 442v1 for over a year and you'll be able to return it for a full refund.  As far as I know, there's not a single incident of a customer returning a product that's been given a hard time about the condition of the device, missing packaging, etc.  As promised, it is a no-questions asked return.

Gamma testers have already had the 442 for over 1 year.
The Woot sale was Sept 6,2005
The promise of firmware and hardware upgrades and the no questions asked return was all part of the Gamma offer.
Im currently struggling with the decision to return now and be done with it or continue to belive in the project and wait.
Im bored with current 442 and The $330 refund could buy me a nice new toy.
It looks like the OSD will be coming out first.

How about  considering offering us faithful 442 Gamma testers some sort of option to exchange for a OSD when its released soon and then  pay  a increased upgrade fee for the 442V2
3  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - Feedback and Discussion / Re: What do you think of the 442v2 concept? on: September 12, 2006, 06:43:28 AM
I  really liked the Idea of the 442 as a gadget and did get some limited use out of the current version.
I went into the gamma test experiment on Sept 6,2005 with  a strong belief in what Neuros was doing and lot of high hopes for the 442v2.
After over a year of waiting and no device even close to being ready im very wary at this point.
Maybe Neuros lacks Focus or  resources I don't know but one thing is certin they are just too slow to market with their promised  products.
ARCHOS already has a complete line of outstanding PMP/PMR that they support with firmware upgrades. The only thing is it s not open source. Then again open source is a nice idea but not the really important thing to to me.
What I want is a high quality fully functional polished device that does what its designed and advertised to do.
A good company that listens to its customers and then makes changes to the firmware to improve the product operation and function.
I feel a quality build fully functional OSD is Neuros best bet at this point but Sandisk is getting ready to launch a OSD type device and threatens to beat Neuros to the punch even on this.

That brings to mind a big question I have in general.
Using the open source community to develope the product and software may save Neuros money but what is to stop competiors with more resources from stealing your ideas and design and moving to market sooner?
A smarter play I feel would be for Neuros to spend the resources to design and develop the product in house and then after initial release make the code they developed available to the community for firmware upgrades and improvements.

Well, it's pretty obvious that we bit off more than we could chew taking on two products at once.  Lesson learned.
So What should we do now?   If we don't do the 442v2, we're effectively exiting the portable market which built our community and still holds primary interest for the vast majority of our current community today.  If we continue to make promises and not keep them, that will make things even worse.
Obviously, no matter what, we'll support return privledges (as we always have).

I now understand you don't have a good handle on when the 442v2 will actually be ready and don't want to make promises.
I would still like to know if you think it will be ready in
6 month
12 month
18 month
or a 24 month?

We're going to have an open meeting online to discuss this.  You are all welcome to attend and ask questions.  I'll post more after that.
details on http://open.neurostechnology.com/node/332  you can participate by going to our web IRC site: http://open.neurostechnology.com/cgiirc/

I missed the live meeting but went and looked at the log and there was very little discussion or information about the 442V2 presented.
From what was posted It looks like you have a schematic for the 442v2 but thats as far as it has progressed.
Everyone seems to be working the OSD and The one person working on the 442v2 was also pulled off to work the OSD.

The Main question we have all been asking still remains unanswered.
When is the projected ship date of the 442v2 upgrade to the Gamma group?

The Original  paid discounted upgrade for the Gamma group sounded good last year.
Today however you can buy a more advanced full featured PMP/PMR right now for less than the Gamma group paid for the very limited feature 442 we have now.
New software updates and improvements have stopped and its just sitting gathering dust now as it not a very usable platform in the current state for what I require.
Im guessing the 442v2 likely won't be available for another 6-12 months at the  Earliest.
Does Neuros plan to revise the upgrade offer?

If your getting near DVD quality playback to a TV than maybe the problem is just poor build quality of the R2.
I did have alot of problems with the cable connection to the unit initially and noise rolling thru the video that I was able to correct.
Playback on a TV is still poor quality however so I assume I just have a Bad R2 based on your feedback.

I have tried really hard to be patient and keep the faith but Im getting frustrated with Neuros at this point.

I have been really surprised and disapointed by the lack of community and open and honest communication from Neuros to Gamma Testers on these Fourms.
Gamma testers have pleaded for information and updates yet nothing substantial has been forthcoming to date.
The sense of direction seems to be approaching a Failed experiment status from a Gamma testers perspective and still Neuros makes little or no effort to even attempt to turn this perception around.

Im not involved in the developer google group but do keep up by reading the latest posts and the focus has all moved to the OSD with little or no talk about the 442.
From the Reading of these areas i get the general sense of a disfunctional development project.

Having said all that, I'm still very happy with the nr2 because I bought it for use with my PSP and to that end, I very satisfied with its performance.  I consider the nr2 captures for audio/video playback on my PSP to be outstanding.

I agree the R2 is designed for use with portable devices and it does shine in that area.
Im alittle annoyed however That Neuros also claims its near DVD quality when displayed on a TV and I can't get results anywhere close.
My main intrest in the 442 and R2 was for a compact device that can record and playback content on Hotel TV sets when on Travel.
So far my results have proved poor from both devices.

Video qulaity looks great when R2 recordings are played back on my 442 built in screen but No matter what I try I can not get good quality playback on a 27 inch TV using the Recorder 2 even in VGA superfine recording mode.
My DVD recorder using the same recording source in comparison looks great when displayed on a TV.
Maybe I just have a bad recorder 2 if others are getting good quality results when displayed on a standard def TV.
My main use has been to record content and then transfer to my 442 for playing back on TV's at Hotels when on Travel.
The quality has been such a disapointment that im better off recording to DVD's and using my laptop to connect to the TV for playback.

Am I expecting too high a level of video recording quality from the R2 and 442 to expect it to be on Par with a basic settop DVD recorder?

11  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: Video Quality on: August 04, 2006, 02:09:22 PM
I have tried recording from my dish Network DVR and DVD Player.
The Video quality recorded on the R2 looks Great on my Handheld but is just not up to snuff when played back on a TV.
I agree with FJ, using QVGA looks about the Best when played back on my TV.
I hope the OSD can playback VGA on a TV with quality results.
12  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: CF to MS. on: July 31, 2006, 06:20:17 AM
It looks to me that the recorder 2 can not access or read CF and MS
at the sametime. You can use one or the other but not both at the sametime so you will not beable to copy from one to the other without using a computer.
13  Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder / Neuros MPEG4 Recorder - I need help! / Re: iso files on: July 29, 2006, 06:53:56 PM
You would need to burn the ISO files to a blsnk DVD that you could then play in your DVD player.
then Connect the DVD player to the R2
14  Neuros 442 Personal Media Player / Neuros 442 - I need help! / Re: 442 won't Connect. on: July 29, 2006, 07:24:58 AM
If it works on the AC adapter but not on battery power the problem is very likely with the battery itself or battery supply circuit.
I have run across other failed devices (NOT THE 442) that would incorrectly show a good battery charge when the battery was actually low.

Scanman,
Thanks for posting your hardrive replacement experience.
Can you clarify if 442 operating system files need to be copied to the new harddrive or not?
It sounds like from your post the 442 has a internal ROM that will format and install the OS when a new hardrive is detected.
