I just got my OSD yesterday and I was happy as a clam, then really hit me, this is indeed a Gamma product  , at least I see a lot of potential and definitely I will keep trying to use it in the hopes that all the issues can be worked out and I can finally use it. OK, so far I've been unable to record a program for more than 10mins, usually the OSD resets and it's over, I've tried with a 128MB MMC card and for some reason I can't make the OSD to even try to write to it (I even tried with an SD Card but I know there are problems). So I have a Hard drive in a Dynex USB 2.0 enclosure, which the OSD recognized , so these are the settings I am using:

- Unknown device.
- MP4 with ACC audio (I can't change the codec but that's another post)
- Economic
- Save to MMC (really it doens't matter what I put in here, the OSD will record in the hard drive)

Around 10 mins into the recording the OSD resets. Any clue? My hard drive is an 80GB, since I know 80 GB is too big for FAT32 I created remove all partitions, recreate only 1 with 10GB space and I format it with FAT32.

Any ideas why I can't record more than 10mins?

Well I can see that the list has been really active since I've been gone!  Wink
So, what's the latest for the N3... or has it be killed?

I think the problem may be NTFS.   Can someone confirm if the OSD can read NTFS or just FAT32?

hi,

no i'm still having the same problem with the new firmware. (0.23). it's a 250gb seagate external hard drive formatted with ntfs. I can see the drive in the filebrowser but it won't show me the contents of the drive...

Can somebody post screen shots / videos of the OSD UI?

I found this on youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=RNbksfXN7B8 but I'm looking for a little more.

I'd like to see some of the menus, maybe a browser window... just some shots of the thing actually working.

Thanks!

I have been following the threads closely, and just wanted to add my experiences to the list.  Upon receiving my unit, the firmware supplied was extremely unstable, so I upgraded to the Nov 02 .23 release.  This enabled the unit to see my USB thumb drive and I was able to read and write to it after a fashion.  Short recording were sometimes successful, but randomly were out of sync with the audio.  I was primarily writing avi files at various quality settings.  The longest recording that I have made was about 15 minutes before the unit decided to reboot.

The unit has been in reboot hell from the moment it arrived.  Not being able to use the fancy remote control to turn it off, I listened to endless reboot cycles with the attendant clicking sound for most of one night before I finally pulled the power connector.  I sincerely hope that help is on the way with the next firmware release.  Perhaps these early units should have been given away to those willing to commit to working at making them perform on a minimum level before they were offered for sale.  I realize that this is a work in progress BUT, the advertising did say that the unit would be able to record successfully out of the box.

I don't want to have to return my unit.  I want it to work.  I will remain patient for a while longer.

The engineers are telling me that the endless reboot issue will be resolved in the next firmware version due out week of 11/13.  If problems persist after upgrade we may have to consider replacing your devices at our expense.  Let's see how things go once you have upgraded.

Does the OSD have subtitle support even? I've a few DivX files with .sub files attached, I've not seen any mention of subtitle support yet.

Even the TiVo is gradually being infected -- I like my Series 1 because TiVo isn't upgrading the software any more so I don't have to worry about advertisement overlays, locked out or limited time recordings or any of the other 'enhancements' that they've made to the later units.
Wow, I didn't know TiVo were going like that. It is a breath of fresh air that Neuros have a "just play/record the damn file" attitude, DRM is becoming far too unpleasant now.

P.S. for the record, Joe Born *does* think this product has a "geeky/tech savvy" user base, it is I who opined that it might be worth embracing the less technologically able user and simplifying the GUI. I'm an Apple user, but enjoy the BSD roots, my logic was that the OSD could be similarly designed.
