bump...

the last 'big' firmware update rendered the Neuros unusable and we had to wait for weeks before we received a recorder patch to fix things.  I'm not going down that path again.

It would be great if Neuros rep could post this answer when the PSP fw comes out so we're not waiting for some guinea pig to take the plunge.

With version 3.25-0.27 I've been able to record ASF files of up to 2 hours, I used a har drive in a generic USB enclosure and I record in normal quality MPEG4 and MP3. Hope this helps.

Is there any firmware release in which more than 11 minutes can be recorded to any format?  I haven't had any luck doing so.  I'm totally on board with beta testing, but the quality of these releases don't seem anywhere near beta quality--this is more like "smoke test failed" quality.

I have a question about the current and future state of the video playback.  I have tried to playback some .mpg files from a usb stick with the osd.  The file plays back without problems on my computer from the same usb stick.  When I try to play it back on the osd the video is very stop and start.  It will play for perhaps two seconds, then halt for a second before continuing.  If I play back a lower bitrate, less than full screen,  .avi file the playback seems to proceed without the problem.

So...

Should the video playback without problems from a usb stick or should I just plan to use an sd card?
How close to final quality is the current record and playback?

The problem is resolved.

I don't know what fixed it.  Upgrading to the new version of the firmware seems to have added a couple of feet of distance.  Then I opened the unit and looked around.  I didn't see any problems.  Nothing was blocking the sensor.  But when I closed the unit back up and retested I find that the remote now works from across the room.

Since I don't know what fixed it, I do worry that it may return; but it seems to be working now.

Thanks to the people who responded to my original message.

Hi All,
Anybody that has this constant rebooting issue after upgrading to the latest firmware should contact support for an exchange.  I have told support to swap these out.  Call 866-5NEUROS or support (at) neurostechnology.com
The sooner the better so that our engineers can figure out why this is happening to a handful of our units.

Sorry for the trouble,
Tim

I emailed support@neurostechnology.com  3-4 days ago and told them I did the Newpackage  Install of  Version 3.25-0.27
and it did not fix the constant reboot problem I was having.
I have not heard back from them.
I sent another email today.

Just because it seemed to have been lost in the noise.  There is a NEW capture text file with the new firmware and the endless reboot problem.  I uploaded it on the 16th (see Reply #37).

However, if there is no immenent (sp?) solution I guess I need to return my unit.

Aloha, i'm in need of some assistance. (and if you're like me living w/o your music makes you wither away into a slow and painful state of dispair). i've had my neuros II 80g for about a month (i've put ~65g on it). yesterday i accidentally pressed record as i made my way out of work. it recorded for roughly a minute and a half. this is the 1st time i've ever used the record feature. the player played well on the ride home. i turned off the car and switched on the lock. while walking to my door i stopped and talked to a neighbor and inadvertantly pressed a button. as i went inside my house i noticed the error message 0x0801. and of course it said to press play to restart. now my unit won't play. i did the NAND reformatting and will reformat the HD next i guess. i'm worried that it might be a hardware issue though because in this error 'mode' it sometimes makes a little 'chirp' sound when navigating through the now incoherant tracks of albums, and also 'chirps' sometimes upon shutdown. incidentally as it won't play any music, i need to shutdown by 'play/up' to get it off when attempting to play something. will a HD formatting work (and then the subsequent re-syncing), and how can i avoid this in the future?Huh

Mahalo nui loa for you time and kokua

OK...anybody update to 3.0  for the PSP yet? Please let us know if there are issues.  Seems to be quite a few enhancements with this update vs. the last one.

Thanks
